Thus, the excited fancy car lovers who would like to get hold of the Mugen version of the 2014 Honda City in India may get the entire cosmetic kit imported. The kit can then be installed as aftermarket features for an entirely different sporty look that can make it stand apart from the crowd.

Honda Cars India had also offers the Mugen performance solutions in the domestic car market in the past, but in a very limited way. Honda India had offered the Mugen alterations for the now discontinued Civic through few select dealers who provided the cosmetic upgrades as aftermarket solutions. The petrol variant of the new City also got 30 percent bookings of the more expensive CVT variants, a majority of these sales figures are for the high-end automatic variant. Honda is also witnessing increasing demand for the automatic model of the City as it has been always a trend with the City sedan.

The highly favored and most in demand top variant, the City VX model’s petrol version is tagged at Rs. 9.85 lakhs, the automatic is tagged at Rs. 10.9 lakh, while the diesel version is priced at Rs. 10.99 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The top-end VX trim is endowed with everything luxurious and the patent qualities of Honda. It gets fabulous features such as a panoramic sunroof, plush leather interiors, push button start/stop and remote control boot lid opening and many more bells and whistles to speak loud of its class apart.

On the spectacular sales recorded in 2014 February, the Senior Vice President in marketing and sales division of Honda Cars India, Mr. Jnaneswar Sen commented, ‘’we are delighted to see the swift movement of 2014 City, which has stolen blockbuster charts just a month post launch. The delivery procedure for petrol model have started in Feb, with two fast moving models Amaze and City, the sale structure of the company will be robust. The reduction in excise duty will ease the flow of profits.’’

From 2013 April till 2014 Feb, Honda Cars India has made spectacular profits and sold about 1, 15,913 vehicles compared to 3,439 products around the same months last year. The growth curve has expanded to 83%, and the company has exported 252 pieces this month.

At a period when recession has taken a greater toll on the country Honda has adopted smart moves, evident with its month long profits. The launch of Amaze has done the trick, and the attention grabbing features here are the best-in-class mileage of 25.8kmpl, the interior room is abundantly spacious for a sub four meter sedan. The advanced iDTEC and iVTEC engines built with the advanced Earth Dream technology pump out super efficient energy outputs, and this makes the drive experience breathtakingly smooth. The petrol version of the City is as much in demand as its diesel counterpart and the late delivery of the model has already given rise to a waiting period of about 3 months.

The new City petrol version packs in the same petrol engine as its previous model that is a 1.5 liter i-VTEC motor that delivers a max power of 117bhp.

In the Indian car market, the all new Honda City’s primary rivals are the Hyundai Verna and Volkswagen Vento. The competition is expected to get stiffer as Maruti Suzuki is also expected to launch its premium and stunning Ciaz sedan this year.

Japanese carmaker Honda’s Indian subsidiary Honda Motor India is upbeat about its future in Indian passenger car and two wheeler industry which is evident in its announcement of large research and development facility and inauguration of a new manufacturing facility in Rajasthan. By carrying out both these ventures within one year Honda has affirmed its business interest in India with investment comprising of nearly four thousand crores. Two of its fastest moving models Amaze and Honda City have helped the brand move up value chain from seventh largest to fourth largest carmaker in India. The carmaker is therefore launching a couple of more new models in 2015 which will help increase its market ranking within India and also overseas.

The new factory of Honda Motors India was inaugurated by Rajasthan’s Chief Minister on 24^th February at Tapurkara at a cost outlay of Rs.3520 crores. The production facility is spread over 450 acres and will provide employment to 3,000 people who will manufacture 120,000 cars every year.  Though Indian automobile industry is reeling under low demand and piled up inventory and is trying hard to stimulate demand through various means, these factors have not affected Honda Motors. During month of January 2014 the firm sold a record number of more than 15000 units and though in 2013 car market shrunk by 6.13 percent, Honda reported 78 percent of growth by selling more than one lakh cars within 10 months.  The carmaker is therefore confident that it will end 2014 with 120,000 units if existing pace of demand continues to drive sales.

The delivery of Honda City and Amaze will keep the car carmaker’s production units busy for next few months as  all models of this category announced during Auto Fest 2014 will not be ready for delivery till middle or end of 2014 therefore it is safe from competition at least till that period. Honda is targeting deliveries of six million on a global level by March 2017 followed by 300,000 units in India. Since its only competitor Toyota in high price segment is not able to produce models for mass market segment Honda will find little competition throughout 2014. No one expected Honda to grow at such a rapid pace as during early year its portfolio was limited to one or two brands with petrol engine option only leading to market share of 4-5 percent only.

To meet these sales targets Honda is planning to increase its portfolio of vehicles across India and international markets by making targeted products in every category instead of making several products in one category. The carmaker’s aggressive growth plan includes increasing sales outlets in India from current 159 across 100 cities to around 170 sales outlets in 107 cities and also setting up service centers across 230 locations within next three to four years. The carmaker realizes that entry level compact car market is India has become too crowded with each cannibalizing into market share of existing models as demand for these models has shrunk. For a price sensitive market like India it has to introduce products which are in every price category available in market. To reduce cost of production it is planning to set up production and research facilities within India itself to reduce imports of essential components.

The company has yet again emerged with another classic sedan piece called City diesel. Honda has injected novel design technologies into the car called Exciting H design and Sleek Cross Motion.

The new City is the fourth gen model and looks strikingly different from earlier pieces. The difference is so vast that the new City can be termed an evolutionary launch from earlier models. The car looks pretty attractive with glossy chrome decorations observed on grille that blends in well with darker segments of lower portion. The car moves with an impressive mileage of 26kmpl, similar to the best-in-class 25.8kmpl mileage offered by Amaze diesel. The car costs Rs 7.42 to 11.1 lakhs.

Fiat Linea is a blockbuster sedan launch, and is a magnificent sedan piece, and a product of marvelous automobile engineering. The front portion has creatively sculpted parabola head lamps which is a classic representation of human eye. The radiator grille is sprinkled with shiny silver slats, and the fog lights look amazingly sporty. The bonnet design is aesthetic and an unmatched distinction in its class and here too the boot volume is enormous at 500 liters.

The insides of Linea are as posh as the exteriors with dual tone interiors that would occupants encounter a seventh heaven effect. There are ample storage spots to store all kinds of items with a couple of glove boxes, additional tray and cup holder, for optimum comfort there is a back arm rest, and to listen to amazing tunes there is a world class music system which is Bluetooth enabled. Linea is fitted with potent petrol 1368cc 1.4 liter Fire engine that releases 115Nm and 90bhp. The engine is mated to 5-speed manual gearbox; there is a diesel multijet 16 valve DOHC 1248cc 1.3 liter engine that pumps out 209Nm and 93PS. The mileage yielded by diesel engine is 14kmpl and petrol engine churns 12kmpl, the car costs Rs 7.45 lakhs.

It is tough to pick the better of the two, but 2014 City diesel has something new to offer in terms of novel design technologies. The City overpowers the Linea in terms of engine capacity. Linea has more to offer in interior equipment quarter.

Japanese carmaker Honda wants to cover lost ground even as it is working on introducing the City Diesel. With the diesel version of Honda city, Honda is not just foraying into the diesel car market, but also further stiffening the competition and taking it to a new level altogether.

When the Honda City was introduced for the first time in the year 1998, this car became the top selling car in this particular segment and more significantly, it set a new standard or a yardstick for midsize sedans in India. Thus, for the City’s fourth-generation edition, the carmaker finally fits the new offering with a 1.5 litre i-DTEC engine under its hood.

It is now much evident that Honda wants to take the battle to a new level with its competitors and does not want to settle with a high-headed approach. Every small thing about the new generation City sedan has well entrenched roots in what buyers now expect from a car of its class. Be it the styling or the appearance, the new City sedan has clearly evolved from the outgoing model. The exterior is adorned with some pronounced detailing including larger chrome bar embracing the grill, aggressive front bumper, sleek headlights as well as a contoured hood. Highlights on the car’s rear comprise of larger taillights along with a helping of chrome.
