The world famous Honda Accord sedan enjoyed a special position in the premium Indian sedan market. It was the bestselling model in its own class and was also a highly revered sedan model in India. However, growing competition and falling sales forced the company to withdraw the very capable sedan model from the country’s market in 2013.

Moreover, the Indian car buyers are rather opting for entry level luxury cars over the expensive full-sized sedans. This ensured the death of the popular Honda Accord in India.

However, now the Japanese car major is again contemplating resurrecting the Accord brand in India, as the full-sized sedans are again slowly finding more prominence than before. Premium full-sized sedan models such as the Toyota Camry have been getting very popular in the recent years. Toyota has been particularly happy with the high popularity of its Camry hybrid model, while Volkswagen’s Passat and Skoda’s Superb sedan models are also getting ready to come in their new generation avatars in order to increase their appeal for the prospective customers. Thus, the new generation Honda Accord is also on its way to India along with its hybrid version.

Now, the new generation or the 9th generation Accord model is not really new, as it has been on offer for sale in the international car markets for about 3 years now. The facelift model of the current Accord has also been unveiled recently by the company unveiled too, and it is this new refreshed car model that will be offered for sale in India next year. Going by past tradition, the US-spec Honda Accord is expected to come to India.

The new Honda Accord will be unveiled at the 2016 India Auto Expo in February, and is expected to launch by the month of April. Honda Cars India is also expected to focus on the hybrid Accord, as India is slowly opening to the eco-friendly hybrid vehicles backed by the government.

Under the hood, the new Honda Accord hybrid model packs in a 2 liter i-VTEC petrol engine coupled with an electric that draws power from a lithium-ion battery pack. The combined powertrain of the car offers 196 bhp of power and an impressive 306 Nm of torque. Transmission duty is handled by an electronic CVT gearbox.

The new Honda Accord is expected to be competitively priced in order to beat market competition which will come primarily from the Toyota Camry range. Thus, it can be expected that the premium sedan will be priced in the range of around Rs. 28 to Rs. 32 lakhs in India. Going by its great style and the already revered positioning of the past, the new Accord should be a lasting success in India.

The leading auto company Honda has made some changes in its production as well as sales policy recently. As its model Crosstour struggles to have better response the company has decided to drop it and back other models according to new marketing policy. The company want to focus on increasing the capacity for the truck-production and therefore the slow-selling models will be put off by the company. This decision is taken in keeping a number of factors in view. Hence Accord will also not be produced after 2015.

Till now the Crosstour was produced at company’s Ohio plant, but now this plant will be producing well-known model of the company, CR-V and Acura RDX. Similarly the company is also shifting the production of Accord Hybrid which is being produced at Marysville in Ohio to its base at in Japan Sayama Plant.

The company had a huge expectation from the Crosstour model which it failed to fulfill. It was launched in the year 2010 and since then it was known as a slow-seller. In the month of March there were only 742 units sold of the Crosstour which is the lowest till date.

Mr. John Mendel, executive VP of Honda Motor Co. said that the customers need not be disappointed. A new model of HR-V which is a small version of Crossover is to be launched very soon and hence the customers who were targeted for Crosstour will be happy to have it. This model will soon reach to dealers.

He also added that the HR-V model will be palying a significant role and crate new values for shoppers. It will be adding values to the company sales line also and buyers will be able to have a better experience with all the new model of 2016 HR-V.

According to him this will be helping the company to focus on the production of CR-V and 2016 Acura RDX. The capacity of truck production will also be increased because of this.  The company has decided that the plant will be fully functional shortly and it will add to production of the New Acura MDX crossover. As per the company it will be able to sale 5000 units a month with a premium segment value.

In a coincident the Toyota also has decided to stop production of Venza, which was the nearest rival of Crosstour the Venza was a wagon-style model of the Camry. There are many different models launched by the Honda in last ten years which include Accord, Civic, CR-V, and Odyssey.

However, the Honda NSX will have a twin-turbo v6 engine to match the hybrid technology from the company, which will also have lithium-ion battery, as well as a nine-speed automatic twin-clutch system.
