Honda India has creates a wave of excitement in the air with the launch of the company’s first ever diesel car, the Amaze. The Amaze is set to compete with one of Maruti Suzuki’s best seller called Swift Dzire. Honda Amaze petrol is priced at Rs 4.99 to 7.50 lakh and Rs. 5.99 to 7.60 for the diesel variant. Moreover the Amaze diesel is branded the most fuel efficient car with an incredible mileage of 25.8 kilometers per litre.

According to Kanayama H the president and Chief Executive Officer of Honda Cars India, ‘’Amaze is developed to cater to the Indian market. The car was designed to match Indian’s aspirations of a diesel car and to enhance the presence of diesel cars. Diesel is more reasonable than petrol by 20 to 22%.’’

Executives from Honda are satisfied with the turnover of the Amaze with respect to features which can match the level of many other impressive featured cars. In 11 days, the customer turn over for bookings is 6,000. The waiting list for this car extended to more than two months. The Dzire is of course the most competitive competitor for Amaze. The Dzire is one of the highest profit makers in India’s car industry with a monthly turnover of 16,000 to 18,000 units. Dzire is priced with a similar economic value to the Amaze at Rs 4.92 to 7.5 lakh.

The other cars that offer cut-throat competition with Amaze is the Hyundai Accent, Mahindra Verito, Chevrolet Sail, Tata Indigo CS, Toyota Etios. The compact car segment witnesses a growth of 21% with 2.26 lakh units during the last fiscal. The entry level category is the second most expanding segment with a growth of 8 to 10%. According to analysts the Dzire and Swift models contribute huge profits of more than 40 to 50%. If Amaze out beats the Dzire the sales of the Dzire will be affected. Kanayama stated, ‘’we have formulated the idea of an Indian centric car to get through many hindrances with respect to technology, timeline costs and launch cost of the Amaze. ‘’

The Amaze will be introduced in 150 Honda retails in 97 cities. The company aims to strengthen its dealer image to 162 dealerships than spans 102 cities by the terminal phase of 2013-2014. The car is built in the established Honda factory in Greater Noida with a local turnover of over 90%. The engine facilities for i-VTEC and i-DTEC body panel, manual transmission is developed in the reputed Tapukara factory in Rajasthan and rolled out to the plant in Greater Noida.

The Amaze has already started on a positive note with alarming booking units and waiting period figures. Many reputed car companies who are a pro in sedan manufacture will be worried with the launch of the Amaze. The main point of concern is the Amaze being the most fuel efficient car with an incredible mileage of 25.8 kilometers per litre. There will a stiff of worry with Maruti Suzuki since the Amaze is priced on par with the Dzire.

The much awaited car, the Honda Amaze launched yesterday in India with a starting price of Rs 5.99 lakh for the diesel version. The interesting part is the Amaze is the first diesel car to launch in India from the Japanese parent company. Sources claim that they enjoyed the drive quality of the Amaze.

In simple terms, the Amaze is a boot version of the Brio. The design is pretty artistic with a longer wheelbase to facilitate more room. The car is a sub four meter sedan. The diesel model is equipped with a powerful Earth Dreams diesel engine that can churn impressive efficiency of 88 PS. The diesel model of Amaze will be branded the most fuel efficient car with an astonishing mileage of 25.8 KMPL.

The Amaze will provide stiff competition for Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire, which is fitted with an equally powerful K-series engine. It would be interesting to observe the cut-throat competition between the two models. The top end version of the Amaze diesel is priced at 7.6 lakh rupees. The 1.5- DTEC engine is adopted from the 1.6 i-DTEC engine which is dominant in Europe. This engine will be employed in the Brio, Jazz and City models during next year.

Yoshiyuki Matsumoto the Managing officer of Honda Motor Co said, ‘’the Amaze is manufactured to cater to Indian taste and requirements.’’

The car has a dimension of below 4 meters, and can fit into the excise duty category at 12%. The Amaze is shorter than the Dzire by 5mm. The wheelbase of the Amaze is shorter than the Swift Dzire of 2405mm and is longer than the Brio by 60mm.

The interior of the Amaze according to sources is amazing the legroom and knee room is amazing, the cabin space is splendid. The cabin is an ideal replica of Brio in terms of style and colour. The music system and steering mounted controls makes one experience an atmosphere of luxury. The Amaze has an amazing boot space of 400 litres that can carry heavy luggage beyond imagination.

The exciting and interesting features of the Amaze diesel is the car is inserted with 8-spoke 14 inch alloy wheels, air-conditioning, dual air bags, ABS and EBD, 400 litre boot space body coloured ORVM’s, fabric seats with head rests and front chrome grill and rear chrome garnish and many other features.

According to Jnaneswar Sen, the vice-president in the sales and marketing segment of HCIL, ‘’the amaze is an important car for us, since this is the first diesel engine besides being a new arrival in the entry level sedan segment.’’

The company announced that it would manufacture the diesel engine of Amaze at the established Tapukara factory in Rajasthan, and the car will be released from the reputed factory in Greater Noida. The Amaze diesel has all round splendid features in terms of exterior artistic body, superb engine and mileage as well as excellent safety features which is one of best packages introduced in the car industry.

Most people are familiar with the fact that the Amaze is a sedan version of the Brio hatchback. It isn’t a new fact, that Honda manages to create space within close quarters of a restricted bodyline, in the best way without resulting in cramping. The Amaze has some antecedents. The Brio hatchback certainly left its traces in the Amaze particularly in the front, barring the difference of a twin bar chrome grille, against the single bar unit. Chopping off form from a hatchback to make a saloon could yield disastrous results. Honda doesn’t lack in this regard, and the back smoothly transitions into a boot at the end, with finesse.

The wheelbase of Honda Amaze has been elongated by 60mm, to accomodate more legspace for passengers at the back. Ground clearance for this baby has been upped too, as required for a smaller car, to handle even the worst of speed breakers, so famous around India. Interiors are not at all tacky and sub-standard. A completely new and fresh design is found in the rear seat, which has an added padding of soft cushion, plus the use of higher quality fabrics. Another noticed feature is that the incline was more toward the recline making the seats positioned to offer comfort. You can even nestle your elbows in the arm-rest. The other idle arm can find its sweet spot on the armrests found on the doors the lengths of which have been increased, keeping in mind taller folks.

The boot of Honda Amaze has a 400 litre capacity which by normal standards is supra-normal. There is sufficient space to fit in a weekend’s worth of luggage of a medium size family who will have no reason to feel queezy during long drives, since there is ample headroom, and stretch space. The dash and other details are decent, and not overstated with faux wood and garish materials.

The i-DTEC diesel engine, first time in India, hails from the genius found in the 1.6-litre motor, sized down to less than 1500cc displacement to make it conform to what the government proclaims is size enough to benefit from excise rules and laws. With a bit of engineering and improvements on it basing the calibrations on Indian fuel quality, the drive is smooth. A few tweaks and the outcome is the most powerful diesel motor being 98.6 bhp. Honda is also asserting that it is the most fuel efficient giving 25.8km per litre.

The Honda Amaze diesel engine is also practically noiseless, while running and in idle. The 1.5 i-DTEC is truly a masterpiece. Nil lag when flooring the accelerator and tapping the same lightly through traffic is also smooth and easy. The clutch offers the right amount of resistance and the five speed manual gearbox is easy to use.

The Amaze assures space and comfort and proper dynamics for best on-road driving experience and easy handling. The interiors and details could have been a notch better to make it feel premium. Fuel efficiency being high, the car is sure to be booked out. The Amaze may possibly be prized from Rs.5 lakhs for the petrol varient and Rs.6.5 lakhs for the diesel varient, which are both well priced. If all this be true, the Swift has a very equipped contender to watch out for.
