The Honda CR-V has been introduced for the European market in an exclusive Black Edition. Unveiled at last week’s Geneva Motor Show, the CR-V Black Edition flaunted an almost all-black styling features and special kit. Both, the interior features and the exteriors of the car are a royal black but thanks to the smart styling, none of it looks boring or monotonous. The premium SUV in fact seems to have got a best suited color.

This special edition of the CR-V is likely to raise its sales from the already whopping high sales the car recorded worldwide. Presently the world’s bestselling SUV, the Honda CR-V added to its flagship this classy new edition with a glossy black grilles that make the chrome accented one look old school. The special edition also gets new 19-inch Orion alloy black wheels. The rear roof spoiler and side running boards are equally matched to fit the all-black theme. The car also gets privacy glass and a glossy black diffuser to complete the look.

Coming to the interiors, the leather upholstery is all black, the seats are black with contrast stitch detailing and the logo of the new Black Edition. The steering wheel and the gear lever too is wrapped in matching luxury leather. The detailing is on point with the floor carpet too carrying the Black Edition logo.

The Black Edition comes only in the AWD drivetrain and it is befitting as the sporty and classy appearance goes best with AWD drivetrain. Thankfully, the fuel option has not been limited. Both, petrol and diesel variants are available. The petrol engine offers up to 155PS power at 6,500rpm while the diesel variant offers up to 160PS at 4,000rpm despite having a lower tank capacity. The petrol variant comes with a 5-speed AT while the diesel variant gets two options, a 6-speed MT and a 9-speed AT. It is probably safe to say that given the performance specs of both the versions, the diesel variant will find more takers.

The prices of the Black Edition variants are yet to be officially declared. Since the CR-V is priced in the INR 21 lac to INR 25 lac price bracket, the Black Edition can be expected to be priced at something around the same range, probably higher by a lac or two at the most. Though given the extensive features and cosmetic upgrade that comes with the Black Edition, Honda might as well price the car much higher. We will soon find out what the price will be around when the car launches in the market soon in the coming weeks.

The CR-V is not alone making news worldwide. The smaller model, the HR-V too is creating its own space in the compact SUV segment. The HR-V looks similar to the CR-V, with similar front and back fascia. It is only smaller than the CR-V and has some slight styling enhancements over the CR-V.

The CR-V and its new Black Edition will overshadow the HR-V in all probability unless Honda does something to throw some light on the smaller compact SUV as well.

The new Honda CR-V for 2017 has entered its test phase. The car is being tested in North America and the model looks similar to the current CR-V. The spy pictures have revealed a model very similar to the outgoing CR-V, but with a larger wheelbase on the same body shell.

The Chief of Honda United Kingdom, Leon Brannan, had revealed at an interview that the upcoming CR-V will indeed be larger. The 2017 CR-V will be the 5th generation CR-V. Though the spy pics only reveal the larger wheelbase, the car is supposed to be larger than the outgoing 4th generation model in every respect.

The 5th generation CR-V will not only be larger and spacious, the interiors will get a different arrangement. The car will be a 7-seater with the latest features. The drivetrain will also be upgraded to 4WD. The all-wheel drive system will be standard across all the variants of the new generation CR-V. Brannan disclosed that these upgrades are being made in order to set the 2017 CR-V a notch higher than the 2016 CR-V and make the new crossover competent enough to battle the likes of the Volvo XC60 and the Discovery Sport and Range Rover from Land Rover.

The new CR-V might have been built on a different platform than its predecessors. However, the engine will remain the old one, according to a United Kingdom report. Therefore, it is likely that the 2017 Honda CR-V will carry over the i-VTEC petrol unit that comes in a 4-cylinder setting with a total fuel capacity of 1.5 liters. The 1.6 liter i-DTEC diesel option will also be available. The petrol unit will offer up to 128BHP and the diesel will give up to 118BHP maximum power.

For the United States, there will be a larger 1.8 liter tank that will offer up to 141BHP and up to 172Nm torque. A 2.2 liter diesel engine is also being talked about. Honda is also developing a VTEC turbo engine for some markets. Rumors are that Honda is trying to raise the performance game by adding a hybrid system as well. But the production phase of the CR-V seems too near to incorporate anything as such just yet. Maybe Honda will save it for the latter generations of the CR-V, or use it in some new model in 2016 itself. With rumors of all these different engine options doing the rounds, only an official unveiling can finally say which market is getting which engine exactly.

AS far as the Indian market is concerned, the upcoming Honda CR-V will come with the option of a 2.0 liter i-VTEC engine, or a larger, 2.4 liter version. There will be both, manual and automatic gearbox options for all the engine variants. On the Indian roads, the next generation CR-V will battle the likes of the Hyundai Santa Fe, the Toyota Fortuner, the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, and the Ford Endeavour. The Indian market will have to wait longer than the West to get its new CR-V.

Japanese car maker Honda Motor just like its fellow Japanese auto giant Toyota Motor, has been troubled with faulty airbags issue for quite some time now. Every now and then, the Japanese car makers including Nissan are known to recall their cars in order to fix some defective part or the other, but the most common malfunctioning part has been the important safety feature – airbags.

Now, the Japanese car major’s Indian subsidiary Honda Cars India will be making a huge vehicle recall. The company will be recalling about 2.24 lakh vehicles from the domestic car market of India in order to fix the problem of faulty airbags. The recalled Honda vehicles in India which have the defective airbags problem include the Honda CR-V premium sports utility vehicle, the Honda Civic and Honda City premium sedan models and the Honda Jazz premium hatchback model. All the mentioned recalled vehicle models from the house of Honda were manufactured between the years of 2003 and 2012.

This will be Honda Cars India’s largest such recall exercise till date. The car major will be carrying out this recall drive in India in order to check and replace the faulty airbags that have malfunctioning inflators.

This major vehicle recall in India by Honda Cars India is actually a part of its Japanese parent company’s global recall initiative in order to replace the defective airbags. As per the company statement, Honda Cars India will voluntarily replace the airbag inflators of 2,23,578 vehicle units of the previous generation models of the CR-V, Civic, City and the Jazz in India.

This massive recall initiative will be covering 13,073 units of the Honda CR-V that were manufactured between 2004 and 2011; 54,290 units of the Honda Civic premium sedan made between 2003 and 2012; 1,40,508 units of the very popular Honda City premium sedan manufactured between 2007 and 2012; and 15,707 units of the Honda Jazz premium hatchback that were rolled out between 2009 and 2011, add the company statement.

Honda Cars India also said that the replacement procedure will be carried out free of charges at all the authorized dealerships of the company across the country in a phased manner, beginning from 12^th of October, 2015 and the customers will be directly contacted by the company.

Honda Motor had announced that the company is going to recall more than two million vehicles to replace the defective airbags that were manufactured by Japanese auto parts supplier Takata Corp.

Various car makers in India have been recalling the vehicles to fix the safety issues ever since the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) passed the voluntary recall policy in July 2012 to improve the safety of the Indian cars.

A total of 10,85,064 vehicle units have been recalled in the domestic India car market so far by several car manufacturing companies operating in the country, ever since SIAM initiated the recall policy in a bid to improve the safety of the Indian car buyers.

This safety crisis has been plaguing the automotive industry for the last few months as Japan’s three biggest car manufacturers will have to recall an additional 6.5 million vehicles because of the same problem. This is a financial blow for the companies as they will lose millions of dollars and not to mention they will lose the faith that the customers have placed in them.

Toyota will recall about 5 million cars which were manufactured in and around 2003-2007 thanks to the abnormal deployment of the airbags in the advent of a crash. Nissan will also begin to recall approximately 1.56 million cars and will start informing their customers in June.

The Takata Corporation has provided all these companies with faulty airbags and an investigation has been launched by the regulatory and safety boards in Japan and US. These air-bag inflators deploy with too much force and have the tendency to shoot out little pieces of plastic and metal that have broken up onto the car occupants. These air-bag inflators have been manufactured at the companies Monclova plant in Mexico.

This problem was discovered in November 2014, when a car that had been in an accident was inspected and air leaks were found that could allow moisture to seep into the device and ruin the propellant in the device.

Thanks to the investigations by the US senate, they have found a total of 6 fatalities and 105 injuries that were caused by such as catastrophic failure of the airbags.
