For months there were extensive reports of a possible Vezel launch and now it is true.

The compact SUV market is flourishing in India, and it is the main vision behind Honda’s move to introduce Vezel in India. The other strategic export destinations are Europe and America. Vezel is attractive at first sight, and is an assortment of design professionalism and sophistication. If it sounds exciting enough, let’s see what’s in store.

Vezel is engineered on the same base body structure as Jazz, and sources say the design flow of the car is more like a crossover, and the mystery behind it is the robust line along C-pillar. The attractiveness of Vezle at first sight is contributed by the curves, there are like several of them, and the other sight of attraction is arty roof line. It is the curves that make Vezel totally desirable.

On the front is imaginatively sculpted grille on top of which is creatively sculpted Honda logo. The fog lights look trendy and stylish, and the arty headlights look exceptionally classy and build the aesthetic value of the car. The side is mesmerising as well, and filled with dynamic lines and curves, a true sense of design innovation, simply because it looks nothing like the ordinary and more like the outer-space extraordinary. The exteriors will have break indicator, rear reflectors, rear wiper and rear defogger.

The interior too is nothing short of optimum magnificence, and according to reports it is filled with a marvellous combination of luxury and comfort. The Japanese spec car has three power trains, hybrid, diesel and petrol, the petrol car is installed with an efficient 1.5 litre four cylinder engine and also a 1.5 litre i-VTEC power train fitted into the new generation City. The power packed engines generate 146Nm torque and 116 bhp power energies. The diesel car will be fitted with 1.5 litre 16 valve engine that generates 200Nm and 98bhp. Honda claims that Vezel will offer 25.8kmpl mileage, the same capacity as Amaze. There are manual and automatic variants to choose from, and both are linked to five speed manual gearbox.

The expected price range is Rs 10 lakh, and buyers who are desperately keen on Vezel will have to wait till the end of 2015. It is definitely worth it, to dive into a signature product packed with unbelievable levels of comfort, luxury, safety and advanced technology.

The whole world is waiting for the new Honda Vezel, the car has hit Chinese markets, in the form of a compact crossover SUV. It is sold at a price range of 128,000 to 189,000 Yuan which is Rs 12.92 to 19.04 lakhs INR.

There is also a Honda XR-V car in the making that will be manufactured by Dongfeng Honda JV. The Chinese spec Vezel is striking to the eye with respect to dimension, its height, width and length dimension is 1,605mm, 1,722mm and 4,294mm respectively and its wheelbase measurement is 2,610mm.

Like any other global launch, the Chinese spec Honda Vezel is feature rich, inside out. The elegance and professionalism of the exteriors is characterized by new artistically styled alloy wheels, front grille and solid chrome treatment. The inner décor is grand and funky to the hilt covered in a vibrant orange and black shade. The interior of Vezel car for Japanese markets is covered with single tone royal grey.

Vezel is sold with petrol fuel only, but the choice options are vast, there is a 1.8 liter engine that generates 162.6bhp and 1.5 liter mill that churns 162.6bhp. The power trains are coupled with seven speed CVT or six speed manual transmission gearbox, and consumers can choose from all wheel drive (AWD) and front wheel drive (FWD) cars.

Vezel is in great demand all over the globe, and the pre-launch booking figures have touched a milestone 8,000 units mark. At present Honda will sell its 1.8 liter petrol car, and the 1.5 liter model will not be sold at the moment, but during the period of early 2015.

There is so much of high-end luxury excitement to look forward to in the Chinese spec Vezel, with world class multimedia infotainment system with seven inch touch screen, electronic parking brake, ESP, airbags, sunroof, ABS, LED daytime running lights and alloy wheels.

The whole world is waiting for Honda Vezel, it is among the most glamorous newcomers to look forward to. The company has not mentioned of Vezel launch in India, the good news is the car will hit Chinese markets in October. The launch was supposed to happen in November, but is now postponed to October. About the good news, if a Chinese launch is round the corner, then an Indian entry is probable. The vehicle was displayed in grand style at the prestigious 2014 Beijing Auto Show in April, and was produced at the acclaimed Guangzhou Honda plant.

Honda XR-V

There are two petrol engines for the Chinese Vezel a 1.8 liter i-VTEC and 1.5 liter i-VTEC mill. The 1.8 liter i-VTEC engine is fitted with four cylinders and emits 165bhp and i-VTEC 1.5 liter engine generates 131bhp. According to reports on the Vezel for Chinese segment, it is apparent that Honda is introducing an up-scale development, and sources say the company may develop a 1.5 liter hybrid power train expected to arrive in 2015. Vezel is 4.2 meters long, and its wheelbase dimension is 2.6 meters.

The price structure of Vezel is 120000-150000 Yuan (Rs 11.9-14.88 lakhs), and is fierce rivals are Renault Captur, Nissan Juke, Suzuki Sx4 and Suzuki S-Cross. The styling of Vezel according to reports is strikingly similar to Honda XR-V, and the visibility effect is felt on bumpers.

As mentioned earlier, the world is awaiting Honda Vezel, the impact of the car on the globe is resounding. It is called HR-V in Europe and sketches of the car were displayed online before the actual showcasing at Paris Motor Show scheduled for October. The styling of the Europe spec car is similar to US model, and it’s got a deep design punch characterized by coupe like outline, sweptback headlights filled with potent LED daytime running lights, sweptback headlights, super illuminating taillights are aggressively styled and elegant wheel arches.

The European spec HR-V or Vezel is longer than the Chinese car, it is 1,605mm tall, 1,770mm wide and 4,295mm long, and its wheelbase length is 2,610mm. Information on engine details has not yet been revealed, Honda will announce the power train features in Paris. Sources say the probable engine equipments are 1.6 liter i-DTEC, 1.5-liter four cylinder and 1 liter three-cylinder diesel mills. The arch rivals of European made Vezel are Renault Captur, Fiat 500X, Peugeot 2008 and Nissan Juke. The due arrival date is 2015.

Vezel sports an exclusive style statement; the signature feature is the two idiosyncratic lines on the side. The front view is classy and sophisticated characterized by professional headlight and grille arrangement. The rear sight is great as well with imaginatively styled tail lights filled with neat horizontal strips. The white roof rails enhance the aesthetic and sporty character of the vehicle. Vezel on the whole is a professionally styled car, the Chinese spec car looks magnificent, sadly Honda has not confirmed about an Indian launch, let’s hope it happens.

The compact and mini SUVs are the rage in the latest times in the global auto markets. Thus, all the auto majors of the world are churning out as many compact crossovers as possible in order to cash in on this very lucrative segment. After the launch of the compact SUV Vezel in the home market last December, the Japanese car maker Honda Motor is all set to launch the same SUV model in the U.S as well as the European car markets.

New Honda Vezel compact SUV

The Honda Vezel will be called the HR-V for the U.S car markets and the Japanese auto major has announced it earlier this year. Now, it seems that Honda Motor is busy giving the final touches to the European version of the Vezel and is almost ready to launch the vehicle in the European car markets as well.

The new Honda Vezel SUV’s prototype model was recently caught by the spy shutterbugs while the vehicle was testing on European roads with full camouflages in place. The Vezel or the HR-V compact SUV is based on the platform of the new Jazz / Fit hatchback and thus is a very capable and reliable vehicle. The vehicle was caught testing the ground of Europe near the Alps in the current month, and the vehicle was spotted covering its entire body with black spandex veils.

As per the spy pictures, the European spec model of the Vezel apparently does not look much different than the Vezel or the HR-V versions. However, it is expected that Honda Motor has incorporated some minor cosmetic alterations in order to make it look a bit different for the European car markets. These cosmetic changes might include the headlight and tail light enclosures as well as front and rear bumper designs, which should bring about a slight exclusive look to the vehicle.

Honda Motor has already made it clear in its statement that the company will not use the Vezel moniker for the compact SUV outside Asia. However, the same SUV will be called the HR-V albeit with some minor modifications and in the European car markets as well. Honda has yet not decided on the name of the European model which will also come along with a tweaked chassis.

Under the hood, the European spec Honda Vezel will get the powertrains of the latest Jazz hatchback. The compact SUV is likely to be powered by the company’s new 1.6 liter turbo diesel motor and a 1.5 liter direct injected 4-cylinder petrol mill. Other powertrain options might include a 1.5 liter hybrid engine which is already being offered in the Japanese car market; a 1.5 liter turbocharged petrol engine might also join the range at a later date.

The new European spec of Honda compact SUV will be competing with the Nissan Juke and Opel/Vauxhall Mokka. The vehicle is expected to premiere at the 2014 Paris Auto Show or at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show.

We all are well aware of the tough competition in the Compact SUV segment in the domestic market. There are many car companies who have entered this segment with some superb vehicles like the Nissan Terrano, the Ford EcoSport, the Renault Duster, etc. Now, news is coming from the Japanese manufacturer, Honda that they are planning to bring in the Honda Vezel. And when this came out in open, Chevrolet thought to put forward its Trax to fill up the empty space in the compact SUV segment.

2014 Honda Vezel Front

Honda Vezel is based on the platform of Jazz but the way this car looks would easily let you misunderstand its image. The Vezel is a modern compact SUV which has some killing looks. The front end of the car has got huge swept back headlamps which makes it look bigger and the big bumper just enhances that image. Vezel has got very striking alloy wheels which develops the side profile of the car. The rear end of the Vezel is very different with a new design of tail lamps and a mini roof spoiler.

The interiors of the Vezel has everything which you would expect from a car of Honda. Features like keyless entry, push button start/stop, etc will be seen here. The Vezel has got two engine options, 1.5L i-VTEC petrol motor which produces 116bhp of power and 146Nm of torque, the other is a 1.5L i-DTEC diesel engine which churns out 98bhp of power and 200Nm of torque.

On the other hand the Chevrolet Trax is a something which wouldn’t excite you. It has got the taste of Chevrolet styling. It looks quite similar to rest of the vehicles of the company like the Captiva. The front end has that typical Chevy hint which is a little bit disappointing as something new would have been welcomed more beautifully. It doesn’t mean that the Trax looks bad. It doesn’t. It is just that a new design philosophy would have been more profitable for the company. Anyways, the Trax would be available in two engine options. We are expecting a 1.4 litre turbocharged petrol mill and a 1.7 litre diesel engine which would be the centre of attraction.

As of now, there aren’t much information regarding the launches of both these vehicles. We are expecting that Honda and Chevrolet will launch them almost at the same time to attract more customers. Perhaps, the upcoming festive season would let us witness these cars in the showrooms or maybe the companies will wait till next year. As far as pricing is concerned, the Honda Vezel is being expected to be priced in the range of Rs 6 lakh to 12 lakh (ex showroom, Delhi) and the Chevrolet Trax would fall in the price bracket of Rs 8 lakh to Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The price will differ according to the variant you would pick. Honda Vezel and Chevrolet Trax would bring more options for us to choose from but they would increase the level of competition to a higher level which means more work for other companies.

Renault Duster gained immense popularity as soon as it came out. It was a nice package available at an attractive price tag. In a country where the car sales are driven by the amount of sheet metal on it, this car was an immediate success. It looked and felt like a proper SUV but was affordable to buy and run. Soon after it was launched, the Ford Ecosport came in and took away the limelight. The SUV segment is growing fierce with all the major players joining in and Honda is coming up with the Vezel to probe the opportunity in this segment.

The Honda Vezel is an urban SUV based on the Jazz platform. We saw this machine first at the Detroit Motor Show last year. The new Honda Jazz is also coming in very soon which means these two will share many components and help keep the costs down. The Vezel follows the familiar Honda design scheme and has got some sharp lines on it to make it look aggressive. It resembles to its elder sibling CR-V but is smaller. The side profile looks impressive and they have neatly integrated the rear door handles in the glass section.

The Renault Duster has been a popular model for the manufacturer in many markets. the new Renault Duster will be very much similar to the current generation Duster. We aren’t saying that it is a bad looking car but it doesn’t look as impressive when you compare it to the Vezel. The new car gets meaner looking headlamps and a new grille giving it a nice nose. They have put new front and rear scuff plates giving it a sporty look. It also gets new set of wheels and roof rails.

Renault Duster

As far as we know, the Vezel will come with two diesel engine options. Both the engine will be carried from the Honda City. The 1.5 litre i-VTEC petrol engine generates a peak power of 116 bhp while the new 1.5 litre i-DTEC engine generates a peak power of 100 bhp. Both these engines will come mated to five speed manual gearbox.

While the engines on Vezel are impressive, the Renault Duster serves you with a larger number of engine options. The 1.5 litre diesel engine on Duster is offered in two states of tune and the new version will continue to get both the variants. The low power variant generates 84 bhp of peak power and 200 Nm peak torque while the other variant generates 110 bhp and a torque of 240 Nm. This is the only engine in the range to be offered with a six speed gearbox. The petrol engine displaces 1.6 litres and generates 102 bhp peak power. The new Duster will continue to have all these engines and they will introduce another engine. This engine will be a 1.2 litre turbocharged unit generating a peak power of 123 bhp. Both the cars are evenly matched and the large number of options on Duster means that you can have exactly the kind of drive you like.

Hyundai has tried its hand on SUVs in the Indian market but they haven’t been a success story for them. They hardly sold any units of the Tucson and the Santa Fe hasn’t been doing any good either. The updated Santa Fe with the typical Hyundai fluidic treatment was launched earlier this year at the Auto Expo but we haven’t been able to spot many of those on actual roads. Going against the Japanese giant is tough after all. Now they are planning to compete in the compact SUV segment with the ix35. It would compete against vehicles like Renault Duster, Ford EcoSport and many other upcoming vehicles like Honda Vezel and Maruti Suzuki XA Alpha.

2014 Honda Vezel Front

Both the Honda Vezel and Hyundai ix35 are being sold in many markets. Both the cars look quite impressive. The Vezel looks like a smaller CR-V while the ix35 looks like a Verna sitting higher than usual without its boot. The point is that both the cars are pretty but quite differently. The Vezel has got the typical Honda face with the H design scheme and has got an impressive presence. The side profile features flared arches and hidden door handles to boost the overall look of the car. The ix35 on the other hand features a sleek and sharp design.

Hyundai ix35

You can clearly tell the ix35 is a Hyundai just by looking at it. The smooth lines, sharp headlamp flowing into hood and the tail lamps just give it away. There is a lot of detailing on the car and it looks worth much more than what you would actually pay for it. The Honda Vezel isn’t lacking in this department either. The car is impressive on both the outside and inside. There is a lot of space in the cabin and the packing is excellent like you would expect on a Honda. Every bit has been properly used to free up space for the occupants. The dashboard has been laid out nicely and it offers you decent level of equipment. However the people at Hyundai are just as good at the job of loading the dashboard.

The Vezel would offer both petrol and diesel engines. These engines will be carried from the current generation of Honda City. The 1.5 litre petrol engine generates peak power of 116 bhp while the 1.5 litre diesel engine generates peak power of 100 bhp. Both the engines perform really well in the everyday usage and offer excellent fuel economy. We have recently seen Honda launch the Mobilio MPV with the exact same engine options. The ix35 on the other hand will offer more engine options. Hyundai recently introduced a new 1.1 litre diesel engine on the Grand i10. This diesel engine might make it under the hood of ix35 generating different amount of power. This would help them keep the starting costs low for the diesel variant. They will also introduce larger engines like the ones from Verna on the higher models. Expect the prices of ix35 to start a bit lower than the Vezel.

The SUV market in India is hotter than ever due to the entry of some impressive compact SUVs. Cars like Ford EcoSport have created an entirely new class of vehicles which are small yet powerful, practical yet capable and efficient yet fun to drive. This has made them quite popular among buyers who wish for a SUV but have otherwise been settling for premium hatchbacks or budget sedans. There are many new SUVs entering the Indian market soon as all the manufacturers rush to register their presence in this fast growing segment. Maruti Suzuki showcased the XA- Alpha at the 2012 Auto Expo and is expected to launch it in the Indian market soon. On the other hand, Honda is preparing its Vezel SUV.

2015 Honda Vezel Crossover Green

There was another SUV showcased by Suzuki called the iV-4 which appeared to be a grown up version of the XA- Alpha. It isn’t very sure for now what car will they choose to bring to the Indian shores. This is because the IV-4 is a slightly bigger car and if they manage to price it competitively, it might give tough competition to the Ford EcoSport and Renault Duster.

The Honda Vezel on the other hand looks like a proper SUV. It has got the typical Honda family design and the H design scheme is prominent from its front face. It looks more like a scaled down Honda CR-V which itself is an impressive looking vehicle. It has got a grille similar to the current City with a thick chrome stripe on it. It has got large flared wheel arches that give it an impressive presence though the design suggests that it is meant to stay on the road than off it. The dimensions are similar to the Scorpio or Safari.

Maruti Suzuki XA-Alpha

Both the cars will be targeted at the same segment though the Vezel might come with a higher price tag than the Suzuki vehicle. The petrol engine on the Vezel will be the same 1.5 litre i-VTEC unit that we find on the current generation Honda City generating a peak power of 116 bhp. The diesel variant would obviously come with the 1.5 litre i-DTEC engine that is serving in the Amaze, City and recently launched Mobilio MPV.  This is quite an impressive engine as it not only generates a decent amount of power, it is also quite efficient.

There is no official word about the Suzuki SUV yet so we don’t know for sure what engines it will offer. For the petrol variant, we are betting on the 1.4 litre engine that powers the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. However for the diesel, they are short of engine options until they develop a new one themselves. However it isn’t happening very soon and it is quite obvious that they will use the popular Fiat Multijet diesel engine. Expect the 90 bhp variant of 1.3 multijet diesel here as 75 bhp would be underpowered for a SUV. We are more inclined towards the Vezel for now but that might change when these cars actually enter the market.

Honda is expanding its line-up in India and to do so, they are coming up with competitive products. The Mobilio MPV will be launched very soon and it seems to be quite an impressive one. It is based on the Brio platform and is powered by the engines borrowed from Honda City. Honda Vezel is another impressive vehicle that might make it to the Indian shores sometime next year. It is an attractive compact urban SUV based on the Honda Jazz platform. It was showcased first at the 2013 Detroit motor show. It will be Honda’s entry in the competitive crossover segment.

The Honda Vezel, as we already said is based on the Honda Jazz and shares various design elements with the Jazz and City. It is 4.3 meters long which is almost the same as the Honda City. It follows Honda’s familiar H design scheme. With all the elements in place, it looks much like a scaled down CR-V which isn’t a bad thing at all. It gets LED headlamps and an impressive grille. The grille gets a thick chrome panel like the present City. The headlamps extend deep into the bonnet and into the sides.

There are some nice lines rising along the length of the car. The glass on rear slopes down along the roof into the boot. The rear door handles are hidden in the glass section. The wheels are large and to give it a mighty presence, it has got flared wheel arches. The boot section looks nice with the large tail lamps that extend into the boot lid. The rear windscreen is small and comes with a tiny spoiler above it. Even though it has got small dimensions, it has got quite an impressive presence due to the design.

The impressive design is seen on the inside as well. It comes with dark interiors which would remind you of the costlier CR-V. The dashboard design is simple and it gets an impressive center console. The console features a touch screen infotainment system, steering mounted controls and touch screen climate control. You get push button start on this car along with keyless entry. You get other equipment like rear parking sensors and safety features like ABS and EBD. The Indian version is likely to come with beige interiors similar to the other top of the line variants in our market.

The engine options are what you find on the Honda City. The petrol engine is the popular 1.5 l i-VTEC engine with a peak power of 116 bhp. It will also get the diesel option that we see on the Honda City diesel. It has a capacity of 1.5 l and generates a peak power of 98 bhp. These engines will come mated to a 5 speed manual gearbox. This new car will be priced north of 8 lakh when it comes to India and will compete against the Renault Duster, Ford EcoSport and Nissan Terrano. Expect it to come out in 2015.
