Recently I drove to Ooty with my Honda Amaze and it was a fantastic experience with my car. It is something I wanted to share with the readers for a long time. I bought the top end diesel engine variant of the Amaze. This version had all the features, spacious boot, excellent engine power and the best feature of them all the high fuel efficiency from the i-DTEC engine.
When we left from Bangalore the car performed flawlessly as we drove on the Mysore road. The four laned highway allowed the Amaze to stretch its legs and we happily cruised around 80 kmph and occasionally did a little over 120 kmph when we found the roads to be empty. My wife loves the Blue Metallic color of our car and it has been the perfect decision to purchase it. Despite the higher speeds we got excellent fuel efficiency.
Bangalore weather is generally very cool and with winter months approaching we didn’t need to use the AC for very long. The car does not feel underpowered with the air conditioning at full blast but the blower can be a little noisy at high speeds. I suffer from lower back pain sometimes but I found the seating on the Amaze sedan to be quite comfortable with good back support. This was one of the reasons for my purchase.
We crossed Mysore and then went towards Ooty. Driving through Bandipur was the highlight of my trip as the car stood out amongst the greenery of the place. The climb through the 36 hair pin curves of masinagudi to reach Ooty is a tough task for any vehicle and the Amaze really amazed us with its ability to negotiate the tight curves and steep climbs. It is a very agile machine and makes you feel like you can take it on any kind of surface or gradient on road.
The nimble handling made it such a great driving experience on the curves around Ooty. Once we climbed and reached this popular hill-station we decided to drive to Coonoor. This is located just 25 kms away from Ooty but offers breathtaking scenery along with fantastic tarmac and innumerable curves. The car with its low body roll performed very
well. It didn’t make us uncomfortable or nauseated. My wife was very surprised and happy about the handling of the car. The handling gave me the confidence to push the car a little on the curves and the grippy tyres ensured the car sticks to the roads along the way.
The fuel efficiency was another great factor and despite the climbs and curves we got a fuel efficiency of around 17 kmpl. This amazed us and we think the Honda sedan is very good value for money because of such features. We returned to Bangalore after two days and took the same route back home. The brilliant drive combined with the breathtaking scenery ensured we had an excellent weekend with our new sedan.
