The demand for compact sedans in India has risen like never before, and Honda made creditable profits with Amaze, especially under the constrained macro-economy. Amaze has been a hazard to its rival since launch, but what about its power with Chevrolet Sail sedan, also a classy looking car. Let’s compare the two cars and find out.

Exteriors:

The company has replaced the 1-Din audio system with a fresh 2-Din model with music streaming and phone Bluetooth connectivity.

Engine:

Amaze petrol is fitted with an efficient 1.2 litre i-VTEC engine that generates 109Nm and 88PS, and moves with a top class 18kpl mileage and coupled with 5-speed automatic transmission gearbox. The diesel model is fitted with a potent 1.5 litre turbocharged i-DTEC engine that churns 200Nm and 100PS and runs on a best-in-segment 25.8kmpl mileage.

Sail runs on a fierce 1.3 litre turbocharged SDE Smartech engine that emits 190Nm and 75bhp and the petrol model is powered with a fiery 1.2 litre mill that yields 108Nm and 83bhp.

Price:

The price structure of Amaze is Rs 5 to 7.55 lakhs and Chevrolet Sail sedan costs Rs 5.21 to 7.65 lakhs.

Chevrolet Sail sedan looks more fashionable to Honda Amaze, the comfort level and décor quality is equally admirable in both cars. Amaze is however more powerful on the engine front, the petrol and diesel cars move on 1.2 and 1.5 litre capacity respectively  and Sail sedan is fitted with 1.3 litre diesel and 1.2 litre petrol engine.

Amaze is a better car on comparing feature and engine richness and price.

The Amaze has generated incredible profits for Honda since launch; the car is a sedan version of Brio. An interesting fact to consider with Amaze is this is the company’s first ever diesel project. The Chevrolet Sail is designed with artistic insertions with an admirable style quotient. The fashionable exterior is contributed by the head lamps and grille, the rear is designed with creatively designed head lights. The interiors of Sail depict elegance and style, to cater to optimum consumer comfort there are a range of gadget equipments. There are electrically adjustable rear view mirrors, power windows at the rear, internal rear view mirror, foldable seats, and head rests for front seats which can be adjusted, sun visor and so on.

The diesel models of Sail are 1.3 base, 1.3 LS, 1.3 LS ABS and 1.3 LT ABS.

The loaded petrol version is incorporated with 1.2 liter engine with the world class Smartech technology with 4 cylinders. The dynamic engine generates impressive outputs of 113Nm peak torque and brake horse power of 84.28. The mileage is impressive at 18.2 kmpl in ideal conditions.

The choice options are higher in Amaze, but Sail is not far behind, in terms of pricing both models are priced competitively at Rs 5-7.6 lakhs. With respect to safety, the Amaze is implanted with essential standard features in all models unlike the Sail, and hence in terms of safety the Amaze is a worthier purchase. The interiors volume is abundant in both models but Sail has a higher level of high tech fitments for a luxurious drive experience. The competition is stiff with both cars.

The recently introduced Sail U-VA is Chevrolet India’s aim to acquire a strong vase in the upper B segment of the Indian car industry. The Sail UV-A  is a replacement of the Aveo U-VA and is designed to compete with the extremely popular and successful Maruti Suzuki Swift.

The Sail UV-A  lacks a stunning exterior design unlike the Swift. There are other interesting features to combat the mundane exterior design.  The  Sail  is  built  with  abundant  interiors  and  other  exciting  features.  The  Sail  has  also  introduced  the diesel  engine  with  the similar  efficiency  to  the  Swift  in  the  upper  B  segment  enriched  with  diesel  cars.  The  Aveo UV-A  was  built  with  petrol  engine  and has proved  to offer impressive engine efficiency.

The  Chevrolet  Sail  UV-A was  launched  at  a  reasonable  price and  built  with excellent  features  making  this  model  a  value  for  money  car.  The  affordable price has not contributed  to  the  marginal  profit  sales  in  India.  The  company  has  reduced  the  price  of  the  latest  hatchback  with  an  initial  price  of  INR  4.44 lakhs  with a INR  25,000  reduction and  is  now  offered  at  price  of  INR  4.19  lakhs.

Chevrolet  Sail did  not  make  a grand impact with  profit sales at 1,595 units in November 2012 in its first month of  car delivery and  in February 2013,  the  car  contributed  only 560  units.  With  the  reduction  in  price of  the  Sail  hatchback, the  price  of  the  Sail  sedan  is  retained with  an  initial  price of  INR 4.99 lakhs.  The reduction in price of the Sail hatchback will hopefully be a starting  point  to  contribute  impressive  sales  figures.
