Nissan Motor India, announced that it is keen to establish a new plant to manufacture the ‘’Datsun’’ range of small cars in India, according to information from top notch company official.
Takayuki Ishida, India Managing Director and CEO Nissan Motor India stated, ‘’the plan is in the evaluation process, Chennai is one of the preferred destinations to establish the plant. The current project is under the regime of the headquartered firm of Nissan Motor Company. The implementation and process will be chalked out in India, but the decision and planning will be carried out by headquarters.
France-Japanese auto partnership, Renault Nissan is set to invest USD 320 million to build a second plant in India, as revealed last month. Last year Nissan announced to introduce 10 models in India along with ‘’Datsun’’ which will be priced below Rs 4 lakh by 2016 to enhance its market value to 10%.
On the topic of expansion of the joint partnership of the manufacturing facility, with Renault, Ishida announced that the decision would be considered during the next fiscal. ‘’At present, there are two assembly lines with three shifts. We will focus on expansion next year, and there will also be another shift to increase production capacity.’’
Nissan is working with Renault to set up a robust investment of Rs 4,500 crore at the factory near Oragadam to assemble its car range. Nissan has 70% stake in the factory. The Government’s reduction in price for Sports Utility Vehicle segment which not hinder the optimum production capacity of Nissan.
On the company’s vision with respect to sales, he said the company aims at 50,000 units which is a strong increase compared to 33,000 units last year. The cars that contributed impressive sales were the Micra and Sunny. On the topic of exports, he said, Nissan is hell bent of maintaining the overhead shipping costs of over on lakh units in 2013.
