Honda reveals a new innovative personal mobility device – UNI-CUB β to be showcased at the Tokyo Motor Show

Honda Motor has revealed the UNI-CUB β on 14th of November, 2013 in Japan. UNI-CUB is an entirely new way of personal mobility and the company has enhanced the device’s compatibility to make it more practical for broad-scale consumers.

The UNI-CUB was first launched by the car major back in the month of May 2012 as a new innovative device to enable a convenient personal mobility system that comes with balance control technology and multi-direction driving wheel system based on Honda’s Omni Traction Drive technology that stems from the company’s research on the humanoid robots. All these technologies together enable the UNI-CUB rider to direct the device to the various directions by simply shifting his body weight and leaning towards the desired direction. UNI-CUB is a very compact design that is makes it easier to move it other people and allows personal mobility in indoor places like offices and commercial places.

From the month of June 2012, Honda is constantly testing the potential convenience and practicality of the UNI-CUB through a testing procedure that is carried out in association with the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation (Miraikan). As a part of real world testing, the innovative device has been utilized by many Miraikan staff for basic moving around within the Museum and also by many visitors belonging to various age groups moving inside the facility.

Honda developed the more advanced UNI-CUB β by studying and including the features that were thought to be required by this testing. With the UNI-CUB β, Honda has gone ahead another step closer to understand its business practicability. Honda will be offering the UNI-CUB β to various organizations by leasing out the device for personal usage.

The new UNI-CUB β is better in many ways and offers a more compact and lighter body as against the previous model. The model’s seating position is also lowered to make it more convenient for a wider range of consumers.

The UNI-CUB β has been also enhanced in terms of design and comfort. Honda has incorporated a new more user friendly design that has enhanced the connection of the user to the device. Moreover, Honda has also included some of materials to make the seating arrangement more comfortable for the user. Thus it has also become more comfortable. The usage of soft materials will also enable to have a less impact when the UNI-CUB β accidentally hits other people and things.

The device has also improved in terms of usability as a stand function has been incorporated to enable people easily get on and off the device. This function also let people use the device as a simple sitting stool when not in use.

Honda will display the UNI-CUB β at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show that begins on 20th November. Test riding of the device is also to be scheduled by the company. The UNI-CUB β is powered by a Lithium-ion battery and has a maximum speed of 6 kilometers per hour.
