Honda Cars India noted a 30% growth in 2014 April with the sale of 11,040 units contrary to 8,488 pieces sold same time last year. The company has noted a lower growth curve when compared to sales obtained in 2014 March. In March the company sold 18,426 vehicles recording a steep 83.4% growth. Honda Cars India has been on a profit ride in the past two months post the launch of City sedan sold in petrol and diesel engines.
The new Honda City launched in 2014 January is an evolutionary transformation from the previous car. This is the company’s first attempt in fitting a diesel engine into the City and is draped with advanced design technologies called Sleek Cross Motion and Exciting H design. It is a fierce contender in C sedan segment, and there were about 7,044 buyers for the car in April, but the figures are lower than 9,518 vehicles sold in March.
Sales of the company’s top selling car Amaze noted a decline in April, and it is a sharp reduction. Honda Cars Indian managed to sell 3,355 units of the car, and in 2014 March the company sold 7,374 pieces. The other popular models from the company’s stable Brio hatch and CR-V SUV contributed 63 and 578 units in 2014 April.
On sale growth, a company official of Honda Cars India said, ‘’we have started our 2014 to 2015 Financial Year on a good note, and we are grateful to our customers for the overwhelming response for new Honda City. We have celebrated our first anniversary of Honda Amaze by launching the anniversary edition of the car and we are hopeful to receive admirable sale outcomes by the end of current fiscal.’’
Honda has new launches this year and a car to look forward to is Mobilio MPV. Mobilio is a MPV version of Honda Brio, and the other stunning new launch is the new Jazz. Honda’s sale outcome has reduced to a considerable level in April when compared to March sales, even top selling cars like new City and Amaze did not gather as many buyers as the previous month. Amaze has been the best selling model for Honda Cars India since its inception last April. It is a car that has brought the company out of dire straits. The car market scenario in India is constrained caused by steep hikes in commodity and fuel prices. The bleak economy has not welcomed many City and Amaze buyers.
Petrol prices in India have shot up to over 70 paise per liter, and in Mumbai it is 80 paise per liter. Apart from the present unfavorable economy, Honda Cars India has to fight the intense competition with Amaze. Its arch rival is Hyundai new product in compact sedan segment Xcent.
It will be interesting to witness the arch battle between Honda Amaze and Hyundai Xcent in the near future. The characteristics of Amaze that has drawn a handful of consumers are the potent iDTEC diesel engine built with advanced Earth Dreams technology, best-in-class 25.8kmpl mileage, and enormous interior room more so for a sub four meter sedan.
