Honda Accord is the most stolen car

Cars are priced possessions all over the globe; there is no greater feeling than owning a posh sparkling car. Honda has a number of vehicles in premium car list like CR-V, Accord, City and Civic. The Accord tops the list; anyone would want to own a lavish SUV and something as glossy as Accord is hard to beat. The car is eye catching from a distance and has attracted an array of theft incidents. It is thereby the most stolen vehicle.

A hot topic of discussion is how come year after year, thefts linger around Honda Accord. According to National Insurance Crime Bureau, and LoJack, an established tracking and recovery firm, Accord is on the top of the list of most popular stolen vehicles for many years. LoJack produced a list of ten most theft attracting vehicles, and vehicles recovered from the firm in 2014. Most of the models are Accord; the trend has been continuous for the fifth consecutive year.

National Insurance Crime Bureau (NCIB) in 2012 August gave out a report on the list of stolen cars, irrespective of whether the models were insured via National Crime Information Center. The centre has a list of reported crime data; the report stated that Accord was the most stolen vehicle, for the fifth consecutive year. The Accord model stolen was the 1996 product, it has attracted 8,637 thefts. The director of public affairs for NICB, Frank Scafidi said, the stolen data information generated by our organization and LoJack is so similar.’’ Frank was not shocked with the theft data churned by LoJack, the theft description from both crime analysis units are the same, with Accord being the common subject. On Accord being the hot fortune model for thieves, Scafidi said, ‘’Accord models are immensely popular, and tend to get stolen easily; it is difficult to break the trend. ‘’

Accord has been an irresistible car for years; it is the top selling piece for years on end all over United States. The car is popular for many reasons, which is inclusive of its reliability, said, the vice president in law enforcement section of LoJack Corporation, Patrick Clancy. For a car to be so popular is an indication that those many number of products have to be built. Patrick is of the view that there is a string of Accord models on the streets, engaged in repairs or accidents.

Apart from appearance and brand value, there is another factor that makes Accord desirable among thieves. Since there are many models on the streets than stretch to many years, the components become interchangeable. It is now a haven for thieves who can interchange components for greater value and sell vehicles, said Clancy.

If there is an enormity of car thefts, then customers will wonder on the safety of their product and themselves. A spokesman for Honda, Chris Naughton has given a statement saying, we are not completely accountable for thefts, Accord has been of great brand value for more than 30 years, and was the top selling car in 2013 in America. The qualities that make the enormous brand value are durability, fuel efficiency and quality. Honda cars have been more valuable than other auto makes in past 25 years.’’

Naughton also said, Honda makes robust security devices such as theft-deterrent system and immobilizer. The principle behind the anti-theft devises is vehicles do not start without the insertion of right key.
