Honda Cars India has tasted great success with its recent launch cars, and the all new City sedan has been a special success as it brought back the car’s lost glory by gaining the top spot in the segment. However, post the launch and the high demands of the Mobilio MPV, Honda India has been facing production capacity issues for some time, which had led to the production halt of the new City. As a result, the City’s waiting period has increased. Long waiting periods can be very harmful for any car model, as this could lead the customers to stray to the rival models.
The Honda City already had a very potential rival in the form of the Hyundai Verna, and now the competition has become even more cutthroat after the arrival of the recently launched Maruti Suzuki Ciaz sedan. In fact, the Maruti Ciaz which launched just in the month of October has already outsold the Honda City in the October sales. In such situation Honda has to increase the production volumes of its City. The company has doubled the production capacity at its new Tapukara car manufacturing facility in Rajasthan. From the earlier production output of just 5,000 units per month, the production has now been increased to double now at up to 10,000 units per month in order to considerably reduce the waiting period of the very successful midsized sedan. While in the month of October, the C segment leader the all new Honda City lost its crown to the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz sedan, it remains to be seen whether or not the City can regain the top position in the coming months.
The new generation Honda City along with its first time diesel version was launched in January this year. The sedan received instant massive success with outstanding response from the Indian market, and took no time to dethrone the long time previous segment leader, the Hyundai Verna sedan. The C segment of India is highly popular and is gaining more popularity over the time. At present, the Honda City is available in the market with a waiting period of up to 3 months. In order to slash down the waiting period for the City, the company has began two shifts at its new Tapukara car factory, which is now responsible for producing the Amaze and now the City.
In the month of August this year, Honda had temporarily suspended production the City to shift its production to the Tapukara facility from Greater Noida facility to cater to the growing demands for the Mobilio MPV.
Honda Cars India’s Greater Noida production plant is responsible for churning out the vehicles such as the Amaze, Brio, Mobilio and the CR-V, and has the production capacity of 10,000 vehicles per month.
Honda Cars India now has three very successful models namely the Amaze compact sedan, the all new City sedan and the new Mobilio MPV all of which come along with their petrol as well as diesel counterparts.
