Japanese car majors including Toyota, Nissan and Honda have been facing great difficulties in resolving the faulty airbags issues that have been bugging them for quite some time. The faulty airbags in all these three Japanese car makers’ vehicles have been supplied by a Japanese component manufacturer, Takata. Despite many recalls, the Takata airbags issue is far from being over.

Honda Motor has been reportedly pressurized by the U.S federal regulators to call back its cars all over the country involving the Takata faulty airbags. Honda Motor’s U.S division has announced on 3rd of December, 2014 that the company is further expanding its recall regarding the driver’s side airbags problem. Honda stated that it is expanding the recall to pan-U.S covering all 50 states of the nation.

The Honda vehicles’ faulty airbags issue is of rather grave nature and thus the federal regulators are said to have become strict about a full recall all over the U.S. The faulty airbags which have been manufactured by the Japanese part supplier Takata Corporation can potentially explode with a huge force. This exploding of the airbags can result in metal shrapnel into the vehicle’s cabin severely injuring the occupants of the vehicle.

On the other hand, the Japanese component maker and supplier Takata has been insisting that the current car recalls that covers the 8 million cars in the U.S. in the high-humidity areas are more than enough, as the faulty airbags seem to be troubling only in the high humidity areas. But the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration wants the recalls expanded nationwide after some incidents outside the high-humidity zones.

The executive vice president in the North American wing of Honda Motor, Rick Schostek told on 3rd December that the company will be expanding the regional car recall that was started by Honda back in June this year. However, the recall priority will still remain for the highly humid places.

While Honda is settling for the expansion of the recall, Takata Corp. has totally rejected the pressure and demands of the federal regulators for the nationwide expansion of the recall of millions of vehicles for the faulty airbags.

The faulty airbags have been a raising issue of fear among the car owners, as these defective airbags rather than being safety features are actually safety hazards as it can hurl out shrapnel on exploding and can fatally injure the car’s occupants. At least 5 deaths and a whole lot of injuries have been reported that are linked to this issue in the world right now.

The deputy administrator of NHTSA, David Friedman said that he is very disappointed by the Japanese part supplier Takata’s response to the decision of the U.S federal regulators.

NHTSA is currently busy collecting proofs that a recall in regard to this issue is highly required, and the organization will publicly announce the results of the probe. Thereafter, NHTSA intends to order Takata to make a nationwide recall, refusing which the company would be taken to the court.
