The Honda Civic has been one of the world’s longest enduring cars. The first Civic went on sale 40 years ago. Like every car which has been a long-term success, numerous updates have been given to the Civic.
Design of the 2015 Civic
So what is the latest Honda like? The latest version to get an open mouth at the lower bumper and a black honeycomb-mesh grille. It sports a redesigned rear end with a chrome bar connecting the taillights. This gives the car a wider look. The interiors have also been redesigned. The materials and the sound suppression have been significantly enhanced. A soft-touch padded surface covers the dashboard. The Si hot-rod models have bigger engines and more performance oriented suspensions. These also come along with attractive new seats and a prominent rear spoiler. The steering wheel is wrapped in leather and the material sports a darker trim. The Civic also offers substantial trunk space, and has beefier side pillars and side windows, and has high strength steel to suppress cabin noise and for safety. Overall, it offers safe, clean rides.
Handling and ride quality
The 2015 Civic is, like most of its predecessors, an excellent handling compact sedans. Handling feels solid and reliable and the Civic has been thoroughly updated. The ride is overall, more pleasant and quiet. The standard 1.8 liter, V4 mill will get a new efficient CVT. This makes the option of a five-speed manual rather obsolete. The CVT also has a better mileage, with 33 mpg compared to 31 mpg for the manual.
Engine and gearbox
The acceleration has a natural, if torquey feel. The Civic Si models get a more powerful 201 hp, 2.4 liter V4, mated with a 6-speed manual gearbox. Whereas the Civic Hybrid uses a lithium-ion battery pack, which delivers excellent gas mileage. A thin 15 kW electric motor sits behind the 1.5 liter engine and the CVT, supplementing the engine output with extra torque.
Trims and features-1
Among the most popular trims is the Civic EX, which has inbuilt automatic climate control and excellent navigation and infotainment options. Every effort has also been made to ensure that it is safe. The Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (HIS) deems it to be a Top Safety Pick. Rear-view cameras are standard, as are forward-collision and lane-departure warning systems. Other regular safety features include electronic stability control, anti-lock brakes, front and front-seat side airbags and side-curtain bags.
Trims and features-2
The total number of trims offered is eight-LX, HF, EX, EX-L, SE (exclusive to the 2015 version), Si, Hybrid and Natural Gas. The all-new SE is offered only as a sedan and has a keyless access and a push-button start.
New plans and conclusion
One of the most exciting announcements pertaining to the Civic is that Honda will be building Turbo engines in Ohio in 2015. The most likely engine is going to be 1 .5 liter turbo which will enable the company to meet stricter emission mandates. Some naturally aspirated engines are likely to continue to exist. About 200.000 turbo’s may be built per year. Honda appears intent to continue to present the Civic as an excellent, top-of-the-line sedan and build on its excellence.
