Honda Motors, from Japan and America based Ford Motors are two globally renowned Moto giants, and have reserved an excellent contribution to the automobile industry ever since their setup. The models City and Fiesta from Honda and Ford respectively are the top notch rivals in the sedan segment, and have set a bar as for performance, looks and what not. Honda is known for brilliant engines, build whereas Ford has always focused on better driving experience. The head to head competition between these two compact sedans can be overviewed in terms of exteriors, interiors, performance and other specifications.
Falling in the same segment of pricing i.e. Rs. 8-10 lakh(depending on variant), both have quite similar performance features as in 1.5 l four cylinder petrol engine and operate at five speed manual transmission. Fiesta has an edge of being available in a diesel variant whereas City doesn’t. Honda City exhibits a mileage offering of an average fifteen kmpl, somewhat same as that of Fiesta. The ground clearance of City is 165mm and Fiesta is 168 mm. Aerodynamics of City are particularly awesome. Fiesta exhibits far better low end torque than City. Honda City is dimensioned 4420/1695/1480 while Ford Fiesta is 4291/1722/1460 (mm).
Though both exhibit stunning and classy exteriors, they vary in terms of particular specs. The City looks face-lifted with reflecting headlights, enhanced grille and alluring rear look; whereas Fiesta is sportier with foxy eyed headlamps, appliqué rear looks, radiator grille and chrome embroidered fog lamps. As far as interiors are concerned, City sure carries an edge over the Fiesta considering finish and fit of the Honda sedan. Elegant padded panels, modern designing and better storage spaces make it more appealing than the rival. Just that the Fiesta has a better information display system featuring HUMAN MACHINE INTERFACE, with temperature gauge and other parameters, plus is well illuminated than City. Both have fine fabric upholstery and comfortable seats.
Talking of miscellaneous features, a shorter gear shift knob is well placed in City and is butter smooth (quite helpful for city traffic), whereas Fiesta gives a better high speed drive experience with appealing control and handling. Also, its steering feedback is the best in class. City has five spoke alloy wheels while those of Fiesta are rather bald. Air conditioning system is more efficient in City except the accompanying blower noise. Both have a decent sound system with steering mounted controls, to specify that Fiesta has two additional tweeters installed. Rather common specifications like Power steering, power windows, defogger, keyless entry etc. are to be expected in both the sedans.
Fiesta leads in terms of safety features with front disk brakes, rear drum brakes and loaded ABS system that makes handling effective, whereas City lacks ABS and features all four disk brakes. SRS airbags, Engine check warning and immobiliser are available in both the sedans. Fiesta features airbags on the top too.
Overall, although City has an excellent ownership track record, both appear to be good deals depending on the subjective opinions. Happy driving!
