The Japanese car major Honda has taken a fresh entry into the market with its small car Brio. The Honda Brio has been re-launched in the automatic version. Maruti Suzuki has taken a move to make eco-friendly cars and thus launched its model Maruti A-star. Let us compare these two automatic cars.

Honda Brio is a four door hatchback which looks simply outstanding. The car has elegant curves at its front and the front is slightly slung. The front grille comes with a thick single chrome finished slat which carries the logo of Honda. The upper grille beautifully merges with the lower grille. The headlamps are eye shaped and the indicators are also housed in it in a single assembly. The door handles and the rear view mirrors come in body colour and also are electrically adjustable. The rear lamps are placed in the extreme corners and give the car an overall finish. The name plate has been placed elegantly on the rear bumper and is slightly engraved which looks very unique.

The Suzuki A-Star has been designed in European style and aerodynamic design. The headlamps of this car are frog eye-shaped and have been swept back a little. The grille slot is wide open. The nose of the car houses the company’s logo. The leaf shaped fog lamp slots houses the fog lamps. The bonnet is compact and the car has a roof antenna. The OVRMs can be adjusted manually and the door handles, both comes in body colour. The tail lights are placed vertically. The rear also has high mounted brake light.

The gearbox of Honda Brio has seven positions. Apart from the basic and regular gears, there are also P, R, N and D. Honda Brio also has additional three gear positions in the form of D3, 2 and 1. This automatic gearbox is a single clutch which is very awesome in the city roads. While in the D-mode, one can shift towards the right from the first to fifth gear but depending on the speed and the accelerator pedal position. If the throttle is gently fed, then the gearbox shall shift gently without any hassles.

The gear box of Suzuki A-Star has six positions which includes P, R, N, D and 3, 2 and L. One can manually shift and drive in 3, 2 and L. L is like the 1st gear, which is very useful during the sharp inclines where more lower end grunt is required. In the gear lever, there is a tiny button towards the left side that reads ‘Shift Lock’. When one presses this button after changing any gear, neither of the other gears would be changed until the button is pressed again.

The Honda Brio comes with an automatic engine of 1.2-litre i-VTEC that churns out a maximum power of 88 Ps at the rate of 6000 rpm and a maximum torque of 109Nm at the rate of 4500 rpm. The Suzuki A-Star comes with 998 cc SOHC K series engine that produces a maximum power of 67 Bhp at 6200 rpm and a maximum torque of 90 Nm at 3500 rpm.

Both these cars are good affordable automatic hatchbacks but the Honda brio is technologically advanced than the Maruti A star.
