Honda Cars India is known to be bracing up for a host of new launches in India fuelled by its new found success with its newly launched compact sedan Honda Amaze. The Amaze, that is this Japanese luxury car major’s first diesel offering to India has reportedly dampened the demand of the high flying and unreachable success of the top selling entry level sedan, Maruti Swift Dzire. This rare achievement against the Indian market leader, Maruti has further fuelled Honda, which is now fully prepared with some more smashing cars on its cards.
As a matter of fact Honda has also set its next target car, and that is none other than yet another bestselling Maruti car, the Ertiga MPV. Maruti Suzuki India is the greatest rival of all the car companies in India, as it is the leading automotive brand, and Honda too is pitching its vehicles chiefly targeting the best Maruti cars in India.
Honda has already announced that it is going to launch at least 4 new models in India by the year 2015, and among these the next generation Jazz and a new brio based seven seater MPV, are expected to arrive the Indian car market by 2014. This new MPV (Multi Purpose Vehicle) post launch is to lock horns with the very popular Maruti Suzuki Ertiga MPV.
Honda is rather confident about the success of this new MPV, as it shares the same platform with the super successful Amaze sedan that is the platform of the Brio hatchback which is itself very popular in India. The MPV was recently debuted in Indonesia and would go on sale in the Indonesian car in September. Thus, the car is very much expected to be launched in India by early 2014. This new MPV will also mark the second diesel offering in India from the house of Honda.
According to the Senior Vice President of sales and marketing at Honda Cars India, Jnaneswar Sen, the company is planning to launch the vehicle in India early in the year 2014. He added that India would probably be the second market after Indonesia to have this MPV, which will be available in the fuel options of both petrol as well as diesel.
Post launch the new Honda MPV is going to have the popular Maruti Ertiga as its primary rival, whose demand it is supposed to damage being a fresh arrival in the market. The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga is tagged at R6.52-8.70 lakhs (price ex-showroom Delhi) for its base model and is the first Multi Utility Vehicle (MUV) offering from Maruti in India. Currently, the Ertiga is the fifth highest selling car in the Indian car market.
However, Honda’s Brio based MPV is expected to be more costly compared to the Ertiga owing to its more premium features. Honda is currently reveling on a sales growth of 45 percent even during the market slowdown. This success is credited to Amaze, which the company expects to boost with its new launches.
