Honda seems to be a car-launching spree, what with the rumors of the launch of the next generation Honda Jazz soon to hit the Indian markets. Managing director of Honda UK, has earlier this month confirmed that the new generation Jazz will be the key attractions to be unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show scheduled to happen this November. It is speculated that Honda will launch the new Jazz in roughly a year‘s time in India as well as the global markets.
Sources have claimed that the new generation Jazz would be around 6cm bigger in the wheelbase. This is bound to enhance space in the already spacious cabin of Jazz. The extension in the wheelbase size notwithstanding, by and large, the length of the new Jazz is not expected to be longer than 3.96m, while the current generation Jazz measures at 3.90m. Despite the length extension, the all new Jazz still qualifies for the ‘small car’ and thus becomes eligible for excise duty relaxations in India. The excise duty is one of the key factors considered when pricing the car for the Indian market.
The all-new Jazz will also sport an innovate design. The stoplight cluster of the Jazz will feature a diamond shape and the boot space is also expected to see an increase of around 30 liters which makes the new boot space capacity of 414 liters. The bumpers would be integrated with triangular reflectors to provide enhanced safety during night driving.
On the front side, the grille area of the new Jazz would be based on the Urban SUV platform concept which was showcased at the NAIAS 2013. Engineers at Honda are apparently working on an innovative three cylinder petrol engine for the car that will deliver a fuel efficiency of 35.4 kilometers for one liter of engine fuel. The Jazz will feature 1.5L and 1.4L flex-fuel engines with 106 and 101 bhp respectively for the Brazilian markets.
It is speculated that the new Jazz will be powered by the 1.5L EarthDreams engine for the Indian roads. The Jazz was discontinued last month in the Indian market after sales of petrol-engine hatchback spiraled downwards as the price reduction and even a cosmetic makeover seemed futile to boost the negative sales. The production resources of Jazz will be utilized for the production of Amaze, which is touted as a must-win product for the Indian arm of Honda.
The new-generation Honda Jazz is expected to be launched in September 2013 in the Japanese market. The sporty new hatch will hit the Indian markets next year. With the new-generation Jazz, the i-DTEC engine makes a debut on the Indian roads as also with the Amaze. Buyers can expect the Jazz to feature a diesel variant apart from the standard i-VTEC petrol engine.
Industry watchers are keenly guessing how Honda will position the new Jazz. Amaze sits at the higher end while Brio is at the lower so the Jazz can be safely expected to be positioned between the two.
