The latest in the series of subcompact hatchbacks from the Japanese auto giant Honda Motor is the Honda Fit 2014. While the hatchback is set to make a grand entry in the Japanese markets on September 5th, the company has produced a video on YouTube to reveal more details of the 2014 Honda Fit. Earlier last months, the company also made the official website of the 2014 face-lifted Honda fit go live in Japan.
The face-lifted Honda Fit is also expected to make its debut in the Frankfurt Motor Show this year. The latest generation hatchback has a much improved look and now comes as a complete EV variation as well.
The car has a changed front bumper which looks much more aggressive than the earlier one. The front of the car also includes a uniquely styles grille along with angular headlights. The exterior of the car has radical character lines going in the upward direction. The rear-side of the car is imparted with a more elongated taillights, similar to the ones in Volvo. At the same time the rear bumper of the car comes ventilated now.
The interiors of the car now adorn the characteristic styling of the Honda cars, after several significant improvements. The material used in the interior styling is improved and is of a higher quality. The centre console of the modified Fit leans towards the front (or the driver seat). The interior of the car also includes a backlit blue tri-pod console with multi-info display. The new Fit has a larger wheelbase, which in turns allows a larger cargo space in the car, along with an added leg room.
The 2012 Fit has four engine variants for sale in the global markets. Thus, the new Honda Fit will be sporting i-VTEC petrol engines in 1.3L as well as 1.5L variants. The former, 1.3L i-VTEC comes with a CT gearbox that can produce 98bhp of the highest power and 120 Nm of maximum torque. On the other hand, the latter one, 1.5L i-VTEC sports a six-speed manual transmission.
Another variant of the Fit will be powered by a Powertrain of 1.5L of Petrol hybrid cars. This one will come packed with a dual-clutch seven-speed automatic gearbox, i-DCD. This engine can produce 133 bhp of highest power with 170Nm of the maximum torque. The company claims that the hybrid variant of the Fit delivers a mileage of 36.4 km/l.
Although not announced officially, the car is also expected to be launched in India by next year with a a diesel engine – 1.5L i-DTEC, the same that is offered with the Honda Amaze right now. This one would give a 20 km/l of mileage.
The JDM specific units of the new Fit will be manufactured in the Yorii manufacturing facility of Honda in Japan. However, the Fit for the US markets will be manufactured in Mexico. Thousands of the 2014 Honda Fit, or alternatively the Honda Jazz, are right now lined up in Japan in the Honda stockyards to make its way to the various Honda dealerships across Japan.
