Honda Cars India has been on cloud nine ever since the launch of its Amaze sedan in the month of April, 2013. Ever since its launch, Honda has been able to deliver 30,000 Amaze compact sedans. The Amaze is thus, not only Honda’s first diesel offering in India but also the fastest selling Honda vehicle in India. Honda’s fortunes have been totally turned around after the Japanese luxury car maker launched this amazing compact sedan in the Indian auto market.
If one wonders, how come the not so hot selling car company has been able to shoot up to this high even during the market slowdown, then the answer lies in the fuel efficiency of the Amaze. The Amaze compact sedan is the first diesel contender from the house of Honda that also offers the highest rated fuel economy in the entire country. The Indian car consumers are really into cars that provide great fuel efficiency and there’s no other diesel car in India at present that offers as mileage as the Honda Amaze.
Moreover, this new Honda car also comes with a very competitive price tag to make things even better. The Amaze packs in great looks, contemporary features, outstanding mileage, aggressive pricing and the Honda brand name – all the right ingredients for a successful star. Thus, it is no wonder that Honda has been able to sell 30,000 units of the Amaze in less than months. This awesome volume achievement is really a remarkable success for Honda Cars India, as its major rivals are all struggling to handle the massive market slump.
Honda had stalled the introduction of its first diesel car for a quite a long time in India. The luxury brand known for its great cars but steep price tag was losing market shares in Indian and suffering from low sales. The company had to give great cash discounts to the consumers in order to sell its car models. The Honda Jazz also had to be discontinued in India owing to its very low demands due to a massive price tag. Some Honda petrol powered cars still have discounts on them, but not the Amaze compact sedan (both Diesel and Petrol versions), that has a long waiting period attached to it. The Amaze’s petrol powered version is also sells as hot cakes, and Honda is happily working towards increasing the production capacity of the Amaze sedan.
The Amaze’s petrol variant is powered by a 1.2 liter motor that also drives the popular Brio hatchback, while diesel avatar packs in a new 1.5 liter turbo diesel motor. The diesel engine is coupled with a 5 speed manual transmission, while the petrol engine has the 5 speed manual as well as 5 speed automatic transmission gearbox options. The Amaze is primarily pitched against the segment leader the Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire.
The Amaze will soon be exported to other car markets, and is already being sold in Nepal. Honda will boost the Amaze’s exports once its manufacturing capacity is increased by the end of this year.
