Honda Moving Towards the ‘Go Green’ Philosophy

The Japanese Automotive Company, Honda Motor Co. Ltd has recently revealed its intentions of constructing a mega solar plant and a test course on the property owned by the company in Sakura Japan. Honda originally planned to construct a massive-scale test course back in the year 2007, which would include a high-speed long track circuit that will run up to a distance of 4km. However, the company had to postpone these plans in the wake of economic recession that the world faced in the year 2008.

But lately, the positive changes in the automobile industry, the improved business environment and increased market demand led Honda to modify its plans. Honda came up with a revised purpose and increased scale for its test-course plan. The company now plans to construct a brand-new test course that spreads across a large area of 25 hectares. The area will also be used to develop state-of-the-art safety technologies.

In addition to the test course, the company is also planning to invest in the construction of a solar power plant which will generate 10 MW of power annually in Sakura. The company has plans of setting up about 70 thousand solar panels spread across a piece of land of 33 hectares. The power generated from the solar plant will be put on sale from the year 2015.

In an effort to protect the natural ecology of the surrounding, Honda is devising to construct a biotope within the same property in Sakura. Honda will be welcoming the local residents to the biotope to let them enjoy it peacefully.

The company has been effectively and proactively involved in the development of the advanced and latest safety technologies. The environmental issues hold the top priority for Honda, especially the energy issues and climate change. Therefore, the company is putting as much effort as it can, to reduce its carbon footprint through effective promotion of the use of non-conventional energy.

Honda has been a forerunner in the automobile industry globally as well as the largest motorcycle manufacturer in the world. The company seeks to provide the best to its customers.

Honda has always been very keen and proactive on the environmental issues. The company has been spending substantially in the green fuel technologies and hydrogen storage technologies for a long time now. In a recent announcement from Honda, the company reveals that it is planning to develop fuel cell technology to be utilized in the vehicles. The company revealed their plans to aim the fuel cell storage development within the time frame of 2020. Jointly, the two companies aim to reduce the car costs along with improvement in the fueling structure of the cars.

Honda ranks second to GM in the Clean Energy Patent Growth Index, on the basis of the number of fuel cell patents that have been filed by it between the period of year 2002 to 2012. Honda has more than 1200 patents filed during the period.
