The new series of Honda Jazz to be released in 2014 (Fit in most of the international markets) has been released in Japan. The hatch has been tagged at a whopping price of 1.26 million Yen i.e. INR 8.36 lakh. The newly designed hatch features a number of upgrades and styling renovations when compared to its predecessor. It is also compacted with a well-developed hybrid scheme. Jazz has been released in three versions in Japan, namely F as well as L along with S with every trim level offering 2WD as well as 4WD alternatives.
The base version of the hatch comes powered with a 1.2l i-VTEC motor that offers a power of 100PS and a peak torque of 119Nm. The engine is perfectly mated to either a traditional 5-speed gearbox with manual transmission or an innovatively designed CVT gearbox. Speaking about the petrol motor, it is stronger and comes with 1.5l direct injection i-VTEC petrol engine that churns out power of 132 PS and a peak torque of 155Nm.the engine of the hatch is well mated to the CVT gearbox.
Honda continues to maintain the charm of the enthusiasts with an RS version that matches the similar motor to either a 6-paced stick shift gearbox or CVT with paddle shift. On the other hand, those who are quite environmental friendly, Honda presents them with an innovatively designed HYBRID i-DCD technique that merges the 1.5l petrol to electric engine and generates power of 137PS ad returns an impressive mileage of 36.4kmpl.
Shifting our attention to those high spirited Honda enthusiasts, the company’s professional tuning team has launched a giant collection of performance advancements for the hatch that comprise of aerodynamic body kit of the hatch including the most recognisable carbon fibre rear spoiler and the anterior aero bumper. There is a list of optional accessories that can be included in the car comprising of sports suspension, silencer, high performing brake pads and dual shade alloy wheels.
Though India won’t receive the advantage of the Mugen tuning set and will just experience the average motor options similar to Amaze with 1.2l petrol engine and the newly designed 1.5l diesel motor. At present, the petrol engine generates power of 86PS and a peak torque of 109Nm while the diesel engine produces 100 PS power and a torque of 200Nm. It may be possible in the coming time that Honda detunes its diesel engine and bring to 90PS for a better fuel efficacy so that the hatch remains at par with its contemporaries.
When released in the nation, the Jazz will be labelled at INR 4.7 lakh for the petrol and INR 6.5 lakh for the diesel variant. This means that the company will fit the Indian version of the hatch will hold some of the Japanese specs too to make it stand in competition to Hyundai i20 and Volkswagen Polo.
The previous version of Jazz has been tagged as the best hatchback series of the Indian Automotive Industry till date and the new Jazz is expected to take the legacy of the previous one forward with regards to style, comfort and quality of the hatch. The car will hit the Indian shores in the early next year.
