The luxurious and usually high priced Honda cars had somewhat limited demand in India. Though this was changed by the launch of the affordable Brio hatchback, Honda soon faced another big challenge in the country. The Indian car consumers started showering most of their favors on the diesel cars that are high on mileage, and as Honda Cars India was an all petrol car maker, the company soon started losing considerable market demands including its classy sedan, City in India.
Suffering in quite a desperate situation, Honda quickly churned out what turned out to be a massive game changer for the company. Honda lunched its very first diesel car in India based on the popular Brio hatchback’s platform, known as the Amaze compact sedan. Launched in April, 2013 the Amaze is an extremely well packed vehicle from the house of Honda. Not only does the car provide the greatest diesel fuel efficiency in the entire country, it is also a very competitively priced model that has ensured its huge success in India.
The Amaze compact sedan is empowered by Honda’s Earth Dreams Technology, which is acclaimed for its power performance and incredible fuel economy. The main attraction of the new Amaze is its new 1.5 liter i-DTEC, 1498 cc diesel engine. This light and compact diesel engine is specially designed for great on-road performance and best fuel efficiency. The 4 cylinder powerful diesel engine delivers a maximum power of 98bhp and a peak torque of 200Nm. The engine is coupled with a 5 speed manual transmission gearbox for enhanced performance.
The Honda Amaze comes in both its diesel as well as petrol variants in India, and both the variants are equally popular, though the diesel model sells more and has received greater appreciation owing to its superb performance and fuel efficiency.
The introduction of the Amaze has turned the fortunes of Honda Cars India overnight and the company’s monthly sales performance have been sky rocketing ever since. Honda is currently increasing the production capacity for the Amaze as the car’s demands are increasing rapidly and it already has a long waiting period latched to it. The Japanese car maker has posted an incredible 88 percent of sales jump last month, and sold 6679 Amaze cars in the same month.
Revived and replenished by the super success of the Amaze, the Senior Vice-President of Sales & Marketing at Honda Cars India, Mr. Jnaneswar Sen had recently announced that the company is planning to unveil 5 new models in the diesel market of India in the coming 3 to 4 years’ time. These will include both brand new cars and fully revamped models of the existing Honda products.
The new range of diesel cars that Honda plans to release in the Indian car market includes the next generation City sedan, the all new 2014 Jazz hatchback and the new Brio based MPV called Mobilio. All these new cars along with others are supposed to be launched in India in both petrol and diesel fuel options.
