In its decade long existence in India Honda city has sold cars across different categories which have been available in both petrol and later diesel variants. Honda’s hatchbacks have been more popular than sedan variety among which Honda City sedan has gained popularity as highest sold Honda car. Its powertrain and spacious interiors coupled with beautiful looks has gained the City a loyal clientele which were happy with the purchase till rising petrol prices made them rethink their decision. Therefore the fourth generation Honda City will be launched in India to meet demands of a more fuel efficient car with a powerful diesel engine. This new car will be sleeker and better equipped than earlier version with a strong engine showing power above 100 bhp to beat competition. New features of Honda City will be oriented towards making it safer and fuel efficient while design concept based on the highly efficient Jazz car’s design platform will make it an instant hit among local buyers.
To have record sales in first few months of launch before advent of another competitor Honda is planning to launch the diesel version of its Honda City new generation car first and its petrol version after a few months. At a later stage it may even launch hybrid variant of this car due to popular demand for such cars by Indian community. Market analysts are also predicting good numbers for this car since Honda has recently withdrawn its Honda Civic mid-segment sedan which can be easily taken over by the more fuel efficient and attractive Honda City. Besides its sedan competitor Hyundai Verna this car also has to take on popular SUV’s from Renault, Ford and Toyota which have a firm hold on mid-car segment. The new Honda City will have both manual and automatic transmission options for its diesel variant which will be launched first. It is expected to bridge the gap between expensive luxury models from BMW and Audi and mid-size cars by pricing it in between both.
Honda cars have enjoyed a respectable position in Indian small and mid car segment and Honda is ranked among top five car makers. It hopes to recreate magic of its Amaze car by making record sales in first few months of release. The prolific Honda City is among the company’s most popular sedans worldwide which has earned several awards and accolades. It will be presented worldwide in six trims which will later be extended to eight in diesel, petrol and CNG fuel variants. To make the Honda City more powerful and fuel efficient it will have high technological features like EGR, low tension piston rings and Geometric Turbocharger which will increase its capacity to 118 bhp. This car is designed with a long body and wide rear to comfortably seat three people in the back row while providing larger boot space then its previous model. Its interiors will be covered with fine fabric in dual tones of beige and coffee. The new generation Honda City car is therefore expected to do well in India since it will provide value for money and people have already started paying token money to book this car.
