Honda is all set to showcase a new set of cars at the upcoming Tokyo Motor Show which begins from 20th of this month. Among these new cars, the Japanese luxury car maker will also showcase the India bound SUV that Honda wishes to launch in the country along with a slew of other cars.
Honda is all set to unveil the production version of the Urban SUV Concept at the Tokyo Motor Show, and prior to its world premiere the car’s pictures has already leaked out on the internet. The leaked images that have flashed on the internet gives a speak peak into the upcoming SUV before Honda officially reveals the car. And these images also reveal that the new SUV is all set to give the Renault Duster a tough competition.
The Honda urban SUV is developed using the platform of the 2014 Jazz hatchback that is also scheduled to be launched in India. The car market of India is full of new stunning compact SUVs and this particular segment is growing at a fast pace. Considering this many car makers, including Honda has made their plans to launch the new compact SUV representatives. Post its launch in India, the Honda Urban SUV’s chief competitors will comprise of the Ford EcoSport and the Renault Duster.
The upcoming Honda Urban SUV has a very contemporary sleek exterior styling that gives it a perfect modern compact SUV appearance. It features a low roofline which it makes it makes look less bulky and more sporty. It also has subtle unnoticeable rear door handles similar to that of Nissan Juke and Chevrolet Beat. These stylized features further give it an enhanced exterior appearance that does not make it in the more bulky SUV models.
Though compact in form, the Honda Urban SUV will not be less than 4 meters of length as the Ford ECoSport in India. This SUV from Honda will measure around 4.3 meters in length and is expected to be placed next to the all the new City sedan in the Indian car market.
The patent filing images that were revealed on the internet were black and white and had no logos as well. Very soon the more realistic rendered images were also flashed that gave clearer ideas of the upcoming vehicle’s looks to the auto enthusiasts.
The Honda Urban SUV will obviously be powered by Honda’s new more fuel efficient EarthDreams motors. While the European counterpart of the SUV will be driven by a 1.6 liter diesel engine, the India spec model will be powered by the 1.5 liter turbo diesel mill that runs the Amaze compact sedan.
As the upcoming SUV shares the platform with the 2014 Jazz, the company’s much acclaimed ‘Magic Seats’ are also expected to be featured at the rear of the vehicle.
The Honda Urban SUV would hit production at the company’s Mexico plant for the US car market. Honda’s Japanese and Indian manufacturing facilities will produce this SUV both for the domestic as well as the global markets.
