Honda Motors has officially announced that it has stopped production of its current generation of Honda City sedan cars. It will launch the new generation Honda City in India at Auto Expo in Delhi in November, 2014. To clear existing stocks of older Honda City variant dealers are offering discounts to interested customers. Details about new Honda City have been kept under wraps despite efforts by auto enthusiasts to extract tit-bits of information. Therefore market expectations are for an improved engine with wider wheelbase and strong body.
From past performance of Honda we have seen that the automaker has a tendency to improve their cars significantly with every new generation variant. Market watchers suspect that both diesel and petrol variants of new Honda City will have 1.5 iDTEC and i-VTEC engines from previous model. Announcement of new Honda City to be launched in November 2013 has already been greeted with enthusiasm by customers who are flocking to dealers with deposits though deliveries will only start by January or February of 2014.
When Honda announced that its new Honda City car’s diesel variant will be presented with petrol variant people were surprised as till now the car has sold only petrol hatchecks. This has been due to recent success Honda tasted with its Amaze diesel model which tripled its car sales within months of launch. Market reports state that though this car will be showcased in Delhi Auto Expo in November it will be visible on Indian roads only next year. The new Honda City is expected to have spacious cabin space with expensive upholstery in its interiors with latest audio-visual technology to compete with competitors. Its pricing is expected to be similar to Honda Civic saloon car that is being removed from local markets due to low sales. To maintain its position a top selling car in C-segment and recapture market lost to Hyundai Verna, this car will have indentions running on outer body length which is more appealing to local buyers.
The body platform of the new Honda City is based on its old hatchback Jazz and its front façade has been provided with wrap around projector headlights along with LED rear lights to retain its previous trademark. Since the new car is longer and wider than older version it will have more boot-space and legroom for rear passengers which were a sore point with old customers. Its interiors may be designed in similar manner as the new Jazz with dual tones and leather trims to give a luxurious look. The new Honda City to be launched in 2014 will have standard safety features of seatbelts, ABS and EBS along with airbags in front and in side curtains similar to ones provided on its hatchbacks. The car is likely to be sold with either six or eight trims to increase customer base and will have manual and automatic transmission with five gears to provide better mileage and suspension. Since the new Honda City will be longer and wider than before it is expected to provide power of 100 bhp on its diesel engine.
