The slowdown in the automobile industry in India and even worldwide, which has continued for several quarters now, has certainly not deterred automobile manufacturers in India to go ahead with launching new cars at the much anticipated 12th Edition of the Auto Expo to be held from 5th February. At the much awaited 2014 Auto Expo, it is expected that nearly 75 passenger vehicles, utility cars, commercial vehicles and two-wheelers will be unveiled. This is a staggering jump from 47 cars that were showcased and subsequently launched at the previous 11th edition of Auto Expo that was held in January in 2013.
The Tata group is certainly one of the carmakers to look out for at the Auto Expo 2014. There are as many as 11 models scheduled to showcase at the event. Out of these, seven will be from Tata Motors while the rest four will be from JLR. The Tata Group has the highest number of car launches scheduled for the Auto Expo 2014. German luxury automaker BMW will be showcasing four new models, which include those marketed through the Mini brand. Maruti Suzuki is likely to showcase three sedans and hatchbacks in total. In the list of commercial vehicle manufacturers, VE Commercial Vehicles will be showcasing nine offerings from the Eicher Pro range, unveiled recently which it has developed in collaboration with Volvo carmaker.

There will be 23 companies of utility vehicles and passenger cars, 10 of commercial vehicles, 14 of two wheelers and six of electric cars. In the previous year, only about 35 car makers had partaken in the event. Those that are making an appearance for the very first time in India include Datsun, which was resurrected recently as a brand for developing markets by Nissan, Italy-based bike maker Moto Morini, Japan’s Isuzu Motors and DSK Hyosung.
Indians will be having their first rendezvous with Honda’s much-anticipated MPV Mobilio, Datsun’s MPV Go+, Chrysler’s Grand Cherokee, which is a sports utility vehicle that marks Chrysler’s entry into Indian markets, compact SUV designed by Mercedes GLA and Korando C from homegrown carmaker Mahindra & Mahindra’s South Korean-based subsidiary Ssangyong. Indeed, the list of MPVs and SUVs is quite a long one. However, this does not imply that buyers looking for small cars have not much to look out for at the Auto Expo 2014. One of the most anticipated global launches is likely to come from Maruti Suzuki. It is expected to launch an innovative technology for automatic manual transmission (AMT) in its YL7 small car which is likely to be called Celerio.
