The hatchback segment is an all time favorite in the Indian car market. The Indian car consumers prefer the compact and efficient hatchbacks as the perfect city cars. The trend of the hatchbacks started back in 1983, with India’s leading car maker Maruti Suzuki launching its legendary M800. This basic mini car was thought to be a great thing back then. Since then the hatchbacks have been the most selling cars in India.
Japanese car major, Honda Motors introduced its very own capable and reliable hatch Jazz in India in early 2000′s. Also known as the Fit in other international car markets, created a huge buzz in India. The car had everything to be a smashing hit; great visual appeal, premium quality and outstanding performance, and the Indian consumers seemed to love it. However, soon after the classy and reliable Jazz succumbed to be a successful Indian car. The reasons behind this was its over pricing and its comparatively lower fuel economy as against the other popular hatchbacks in India. India being a price sensitive and cost conscious market could not accept the Honda Jazz, and finally was discontinued by Honda for the Indian market.
Now, after the constant huge success of the Honda Amaze, the company’s first diesel car in India, Honda is again all geared up to re-launch the Jazz in its completely new Avatar along with a more competitive pricing as well. Following the diesel trend, Honda will be launching the all new Jazz premium hatch along with its diesel version as well. The car has been recently unveiled at the ongoing 2014 Indian Auto Expo and will launch soon in the Indian market.
According to reports, the new powertrain in Jazz will follow the compact Amaze sedan range. It will come with two engine options, namely one 1.2 liter petrol engine as well as the new 1.5 liter diesel mill. The petrol motor has the capability to deliver a max power of 86PS and a peak torque 109Nm, while the diesel engine produces 100PS of power and 200Nm of torque. Sources also say that Honda might be tuning the diesel engine to offer an even better fuel efficiency. The Jazz hatch will be retaining its 5 speed automatic transmission option for the petrol version apart from the manual transmission for its petrol and diesel versions.
The all new Honda Jazz now features a much bolder design appeal along with a new front fascia. The entire car looks more stylish, contemporary and sporty as compared against its predecessor. The rear design as well as its side profiles has also changed considerably. The new 2014 Jazz is built on an entirely new platform and offers much more this time around. Moreover, the car has also become bigger to offer more space and comes with more premium features. Post its market launch in India, the 2014 Honda Jazz will compete against Maruti Suzuki Swift, Hyundai i20, Nissan Micra and the lot.
