At the time of launch of the all new City in January 2014, Honda Cars India had announced the deliveries of the diesel models of the latest gen City to begin immediately post the market launch. Interestingly, the delivery of the petrol version of the City was announced to begin only from mid February onwards.

This is certainly the Japanese car maker’s well placed strategy to hold back the petrol version of the City in order to place the diesel model better in the Indian car market. The strategy has also worked for the company, as a massive number of the diesel models of the new City were booked in less than 2 months time.

Now, as promised by the company, the deliveries of the petrol version of the all new City has also commenced, while the number of bookings of the car, be it the petrol or diesel models is continuously rising.

After the astral success of the Amaze compact sedan which is Honda India’s first diesel car, the company decided to bring in the latest gen City to India. Thus, the more contemporary and gorgeous 4th generation City sedan arrived in India along with its first time ever diesel version. The lack of the diesel engine option was badly affecting the previous City which once held the top spot in the C segment currently held by the Hyundai Verna Fluidic. With the launch of the new stunning City along with its diesel counterpart, Honda Cars India thus surely hopes to regain the leading position in the C-segment once again.

It is certain that the diesel model of the City was very much wanted by the Indian consumers as its demands are simply rising. The City diesel packs in the same very capable 1.5 liter i-DTEC diesel engine that was introduced with the sub-4 meter compact sedan, Amaze. However, Honda has tweaked the motor to enhance its mileage even further to cross the Amaze’s industry topping fuel efficiency. The engine churns out the max power of 98.6bhp and a peak torque of 200Nm.

Honda Cars India has observed a massive sales growth of 188 percent after the launch of the Amaze and the new City. Now that the company has also released the new City’s petrol models in the market, its sales figures und to increase even more. The petrol version of the City is as much in demand as its diesel counterpart and the late delivery of the model has already given rise to a waiting period of about 3 months.

The new City petrol version packs in the same petrol engine as its previous model that is a 1.5 liter i-VTEC motor that delivers a max power of 117bhp.

In the Indian car market, the all new Honda City’s primary rivals are the Hyundai Verna and Volkswagen Vento. The competition is expected to get stiffer as Maruti Suzuki is also expected to launch its premium and stunning Ciaz sedan this year.
