Honda Motor had started its massive diesel campaign in the Indian car market in 2013 with the launch of the Amaze compact sedan, which went on to become one of the most amazing success ever for the company. The Amaze helped the company not only to recover from the heavily stressed situation in India but also turned its fortunes completely and helped it to become the fourth largest car maker in India. Post the astral success of the Amaze Honda has planned a long queue of new cars for India, all of which would come with their diesel counterparts to ensure further outstanding success.

The Japanese luxury car maker has already planned the diesel engines for all its upcoming new cars such as the Mobilio MPV and the all new 2014 Jazz premium hatchback that are going to launch in India within this year. Thus, Honda will have a total tree new launches in the entire calendar year of 2014 counting in the all new City sedan that launched in Jan also with its first time diesel version. Now, it is being speculated that Honda is contemplating to endow the CR-V with a diesel engine as well and this is going to happen pretty soon.

According to the speculations, the Honda CR-V could pack in a higher displacement diesel motor from the same much acclaimed Earth Dreams diesel engine range from Honda Motor. The Honda CR-V is sold in India in only its petrol variant, but in other markets it comes in its diesel variants as well. In some car markets, the CR-V comes with a 2 diesel engine options that comprises of a 1.6 liter and a 2.2 liter mill. In the Indian car market, the new CR-V diesel will most probably pack in the 1.6 liter i-DTEC diesel motor. This engine is capable of delivering 118bhp of power and 300Nm of torque. The CR-V also may give a miss to its All Wheel Drive system as this diesel engine is configured to go only with a two wheel drive setup.

The CR-V SUV is expected to get is diesel counterpart by 2015 in India. Honda has added advantage now as it has a diesel motor manufacturing unit in its Tapukara plant in Rajasthan. Thus, the company might even choose to develop the 1.6 liter all aluminum diesel mill in India itself to cut down costs. Given that Honda is increasing concentrating on high localization for all its products to offer affordable pricing, the diesel engine’s manufacturing possibility in India are is the more high. The Honda CR-V SUV diesel might be priced less than that of the AWD petrol models and might have a starting price of Rs. 25 lakhs onwards.

Post its launch in India, the Honda CR-V diesel will lock its horns with the other luxury urban vehicles such as the Mini Countryman and the Audi Q3 S. The Honda CR-V diesel will also be better placed in India given its company’s wider network of service centers and lower maintenance costs.
