The Honda Mobilio is yet to have its official market launch in India, but speculations of it beating the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga MPV have been doing rounds. Now, just as to prove that these speculations are not baseless, the Mobilio has emerged as the second bestselling car in Indonesia beating Ertiga.
The Honda Mobilio MPV had been launched in Indonesia in January this year. Now, it has become the second top selling model in the Indonesian car market in March by outshining its arch rival, the Suzuki Ertiga MPV. Since the Mobilio’s Indonesian market launch, Honda’s Indonesian counterpart, Honda Prospect Motor has delivered 18,341 units of the vehicle.
In January 2014 itself, when the Honda Mobilio was launched it was the 18th bestselling car in Indonesia. In February the MPV leaped to the 3rd spot with the sale of 6,241 units. In March, Honda managed to sell 10,592 Mobilios, hence becoming the second top selling car in the nation. The position of the leading bestseller in Indonesia is also occupied by an MPV, namely the Toyota Avanza which is currently the arch rival of the Honda Mobilio. On the other hand, the previous very successful Suzuki Ertiga saw a much dwindled sales rates in March with the sales of just 3,475 units.
Honda Indonesia has proudly announced that its Mobilio currently has 18 percent market share in the small MPV segment of the Indonesian auto industry. The company statement also revealed that it has registered a total of 30,000 bookings for the Mobilio MPV till now.
In the meantime in India, Honda is very busy gearing up for the launch the Mobilio MPV. Honda Cars India has already posted information about the Mobilio on its official Indian website indicating imminent launch. The Honda website also says that the Mobilio will be launched in the domestic car market of India a just few months time. As per the previous reports, Honda has plans to launch the Mobilio in the July to September period. It has also been reported that the Honda Mobilio’s production will commence in June at the company’s Greater Noida plant in India, following which it will launch soon.
As for the Mobilio’s under the hood specifications, though in Indonesia (which is petrol centric market) it is offered only in petrol variants, It will get both petrol and diesel engine options in India. Given the super success of Honda’s diesel cars, all the new cars from the company will come with their diesel versions. The Mobilio petrol will be powered by a 1.5 liter petrol mill, while the diesel version will get a 1.5 liter diesel engine. Both the engines will be mated to a manual gearbox, while the petrol will also offer an automatic gearbox choice.
The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga has been a very successful MPV in India, but the Honda Mobilio is certainly a great threat to it. Along with great style, performance and smart and specious cabin, the Mobilio is coming to win over the Indians.
