It is nothing new that Honda Cars India is on cloud nine and is currently the most successful car maker in India in terms of recent sales growth and market share accumulation. The Japanese premium car maker has grown by leaps and bounds over the last one year propelled by the amazing success of the Amaze compact sedan. At present, Honda is showering in the success rained onto it by the continued demand of Amaze and the chartbuster new City sedan.
The all new 2014 City sedan has proven to be the second consecutive game changer for Honda, as the car is fetching phenomenal numbers for its maker. The City which had once ruled the higher C segment in India lost its position to the Hyundai Verna quite some time back. However, the all new fourth-generation City has avenged Honda and gained back its lost glory achieving the top spot within a very short time post its market launch. The 2014 Honda City became an instant sensation in India after its launch in January this year.
The all new Honda City is a complete package with elegant new looks, a superb feature package, a much needed diesel counterpart and of course reasonable pricing. Thus, it is not a wonder why it is such a big hit. However, the most interesting thing about the popularity of the new City is that the car’s competitive pricing and great features have made its high-end variants more popular among the customers.
Honda India’s Sr. Vice President of Marketing and Sales, Mr. Jnaneswar Sen said that the company expected about to 20 percent of the City buyers to settle for the top-end variant but the company is pleased to receive over 50 percent bookings for the top-end model.
Honda Cars India thus has to alter its manufacturing plans in order to produce more top-end variants to keep pace with the demands. The petrol variant of the new City also got 30 percent bookings of the more expensive CVT variants, a majority of these sales figures are for the high-end automatic variant. Honda is also witnessing increasing demand for the automatic model of the City as it has been always a trend with the City sedan.
The highly favored and most in demand top variant, the City VX model’s petrol version is tagged at Rs. 9.85 lakhs, the automatic is tagged at Rs. 10.9 lakh, while the diesel version is priced at Rs. 10.99 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The top-end VX trim is endowed with everything luxurious and the patent qualities of Honda. It gets fabulous features such as a panoramic sunroof, plush leather interiors, push button start/stop and remote control boot lid opening and many more bells and whistles to speak loud of its class apart.
The high demands for City had compelled Honda to expedite the operation commencement at its new Tapukara plant. The Tapukara plant now produces the Amaze reducing the load of the Greater Noida plant that is focused on making the City.
