Massive recalls are a part of regular life now, both in the global as well as the domestic Indian auto industry. All the global auto majors do call back huge numbers of their quality vehicles from time to time in order to check, fix or replace several sorts of faulty components. The recalls by the auto majors are also quite controversial in nature, as while some auto experts say that the overall quality of the automotive products have fallen in the recent times, others argue by saying that the recalls are a result of auto majors who have just become more conscious and responsible towards the modern safety levels which is actually good.
India too gets abundant number of voluntary recalls its auto market, which has increased in number by leaps and bounds ever since the Indian automotive body SIAM made it mandatory for the auto makers to make recalls on voluntary basis for safety measures.
The Japanese car major Honda Motor is also going through one such massive recall phase at the time being. However, all the Japanese car majors seem to be on the same boat, as Toyota the global leader is also leading the recall list, while another Japanese auto maker Nissan Motor is also making a number of recalls recently. Honda has recently announced a major recall for its hybrid cars owing to some software glitch which can be potentially dangerous. Right after this unique global recall of its hybrid models to fix the malfunctioning software, Honda has recalled some of its vehicles in the domestic car market of India, again related to safety issues.
Honda Cars India, the fully owned Indian subsidiary of Honda Motor, has announced that it will recall 1,338 vehicles in India in order to carry out preventive replacement measures of a faulty car part. The recent car recall from Honda India involves the replacement of the defective air bag inflator on the passenger’s side, revealed the company an emailed statement on 16th of July, 2014.
The current recall business involves some of the Honda Accord sedan and Honda CR-V compact SUVs in India. In the company statement, Honda has revealed that this recall is regarding the potential malfunctioning car component which is related to the passenger air bags that can cause damage to the passenger or fail to protect the passenger on the event of a road accident. The company statement further said that this recall is actually the implementation of the recall which was made by the company in the month of June, this year.
Honda Cars India has said in its company statement that it will recall 1,085 units of its Accord sedan as well as 253 units of its CR-V compact sports utility vehicle. Honda Cars India has further stated that the company has yet not received any reports of any incidents related to this faulty component in India so far, and the company is doing it simply as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of its customers.
