Honda City Vs Skoda Rapid facelift

There is a big competition in the high C-segment of India which comprises of the premium mid-sized sedans. This great segment is constantly growing with many new entrants and much more to come very soon with more and more car makers wanting to enter this very lucrative segment of India. Currently the all new Honda City is the segment leader by outshining the previous long time leader, Hyundai Verna Fluidic. Now, many more car makers such as the Indian car market leader Maruti Suzuki, Toyota and many more are going to come up with their own C segment cars in the form of the Ciaz sedan and the Vios and more.

The new facelift Rapid in order to be more affordable and fuel efficient will be downsizing its diesel motor by borrowing the new 1.5 liter TDI diesel mill from the new refreshed Volkswagen Polo hatchback. The refreshed Rapid will also borrow the new transmission gearbox from Volkswagen. The new 1.5 liter TDI mill can churn out a max power of over 100bhp and be more fuel efficient. This will help keep the Rapid sedan more competitive in the Indian market given it is highly mileage conscious. On the other hand, the all new City is very equipped with efficient diesel and petrol engines with the 1.5 liter i-DTEC diesel and 1.5 liter petrol mills that produce the max power and torque figures of 99bhp and 200Nm and 117bhp and 145Nm respectively. The Honda City diesel is also the most fuel efficient car at present in India with 26kmpl.

In terms of engines, thus the all new Honda City sedan is a clear winner over the Skoda Rapid facelift. Skoda is also trying a lot to reduce the price of the Rapid its facelift model by increasing its localization levels. The Rapid also feels a bit more luxurious and premium as compared against the City, though the City is an overall better car.

The all new Honda City also has some advantages on its side including the Honda brand which is well established in India and growing. Honda is also known for its excellent quality, premium interiors, smart space and seating arrangements and now, the best fuel economy in the industry as well. Honda also offers better after sales services and pan India network than Skoda. The new Skoda Rapid on the other hand will be even more luxurious and feature rich and also likely to come with attractive pricing this time around, which should make it a good deal.
