We all know that Honda had discontinued its elegant Civic from the Indian car market months ago. The Honda Civic is one of the most wisely designed car from the Japanese but perhaps, it did not meet the expectations of Honda in India and therefore, eventually, Honda officially announced its discontinuation. Well, Honda Civic is selling in good numbers in other countries of the world.
Apart from the Civic, there is also a 2 door variant of the Honda Civic which is called the Honda Civic Si coupe. This is a sports trim of the Civic launched by the Japanese in 1984. And since then there has been many changes and development in this car and now it is in its 9th generation. The Honda Civic Si is definitely designed for the enthusiasts who were looking for a sedan with the character of a sports car. The Honda Civic Si is a beautiful car. Most of its features can be found in the original Civic. But the roofline of the Si is a bit longer in order to give it a coupe like finishing, which is pretty nice. The front face of the car has been redesigned to give it a sportier look. The alloy wheels are also sporty. The rear end of the car has now got a deck-lid spoiler which not only looks cool but also increases the stability of the car at high speeds. To add to the sportiness of the car, Honda has provided a rev limit indicator inside the cabin to make it all real.
Honda has done everything it can to make the 2 door Civic a complete freak. Under its hood is a 2.3 litre i-VTEC engine which produces a chest thumping power of 201 hp and a peak torque of 230 Nm is achieved at 4400 rpm. The engine is coupled to a 6 speed manual transmission and that is the only option here. An automatic gearbox has been put out of question here because it kills the sportiness and fun of the car. The Civic Si is also equipped with a helical LSD (Limited Slip Differential) which works wonderfully. The chassis has been revised and is more rigid to tackle all stresses. Overall, the handling of the Civic Si has been drastically improved.
Honda is in no mood to launch the 2 door Civic in the Indian market and we think that it is the right decision. Although, there are many crazy enthusiasts in India who would love this car but it will only be these people who would buy it and we all know that most of the enthusiasts wouldn’t be able to afford it because a car with such high specifications and engineering will demand a price. Also, there is a only a petrol engine powering the 2 door Civic. Perhaps, this was the same reason why Honda pulled out its original Civic from the Indian car market. The Honda Civic Si or the 2 door Civic would be a risky move from Honda if it launched it here at present.
