The Indian car market is eagerly waiting for the arrival of the new Honda Mobilio MPV. The vehicle’s launch is just round the corner and will happen towards the end of next month (July). The Mobilio is Honda’s first venture into the MPV market of India and the second new car launch this year after the new City which happened in this year’s January.
The Japanese car major is very confident about the new Mobilio’s success in India. The Mobilio is expected to be the third consecutive major success for Honda after the Amaze and the City. The company’s Senior Vice President for Marketing and Sales said that the Mobilio will mark the evolution of the entry-level MPV segment of India.
Sen added by saying that the Mobilio MPV will be good value for money vehicle and that the company is expecting a large proportion of its sales to come from the Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities of India post its launch.
Honda Cars India is producing the new Mobilio MPV at its Greater Noida car manufacturing facility. The company is also targeting to get the localization of components to reach up to 90 percent for this vehicle. Around 45,000 units of the new Mobilio will be produced in the first year post its market launch. The car maker is also expecting to export the MPV to the neighboring countries of India such as Nepal, while it is also considering exporting the vehicle to the other car markets such as South Africa. However, Honda Cars India has said that its immediate focus will be to launch the Mobilio MPV successfully and to establish it in the domestic car market of India first before it considers its export plans.
The Honda Mobilio MPV will be offered for sale in the month July this year in both the petrol as well as diesel versions. Both the petrol and the diesel versions of the Mobilio MPV are expected to borrow the engine range of 1.5 liter petrol and diesel mills from the all new Honda City. This means that the Mobilio Diesel will also offer the industry topping fuel efficiency of 26kmpl in India as the new City sedan diesel. However, if Honda does anymore wonders by tweaking the engine further, then it may offer even more stunningly high diesel fuel efficiency. Honda is yet to announce the exact engine specifications and transmission option details, which is expected to be out soon.
The new Honda Mobilio is going to give tough competition to the compact MPV leader in India Maruti Suzuki Ertiga MPV. The Mobilio has been already launched in Indonesia earlier this year, where it has been a massive success and has beaten the Suzuki Ertiga in sales rates.
Honda has commenced the pre-launch bookings for the Mobilio MPV. At present, Honda Cars India is showcasing the vehicle at the popular shopping malls all over the country across various cities.
