Honda launched the Mobilio in Indian market last month. Everyone was expecting that it would give some competition to cars like Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and Chevrolet Enjoy. Turned out the buyers liked the car quite a lot and it has received over 10,000 bookings in less than a month. The car is a very nice package and Honda has priced it very well which has resulted in this tremendous response from buyers. The base trim of Honda Mobilio is priced at INR 6.49 lakh and goes all the way up to INR 9.70 lakh.

Honda Mobilio MPV 2014

The Honda Mobilio MPV is based on the extended Honda Brio platform. This platform is also used by the Amaze which is another very popular vehicle by the manufacturer. The Mobilio moves away from the conventional design that we have seen on MPVs until now. Instead you get an attractive design with some nice lines and creases flowing on it. While the Suzuki Ertiga and Toyota Innova, park it with the Mobilio and they look too conservative. The car sits lower and because it is based on a small car, it is a bit narrow. Even when this car is based on the Brio, it looks sharper and more stylish as compared to the hatchback. We really liked the rear section of the car. The T shaped tail lamps and the blackened pillars give it a nice look.

We personally liked the look of the car. As we mentioned already, it sits lower than the Ertiga and is also a bit narrower. This means that height might be an issue for taller passengers. Though it is a bit longer than the main rival and thus you get better legroom. The legroom is further enhanced by the fact that it has got slim seats that further save space. That said, the last row would still be suitable for kids only and adults would have to sit all the way backwards and in an awkward position.

While it scores in terms of styling, it loses in terms of interior design. The dashboard has been carried straight away from the Brio and while it looks good in a hatchback, it doesn’t suit this car. Otherwise it is reasonably good and usable. The steering wheel is nice to hold and the instrument cluster is nice as well. The car sits on 15 inch wheels and they fill the arches nicely.

While there are a lot of things to like about this car, the engine duo is one of the things. The engines powering the MPV are shared with the current generation of Honda City. The petrol engine is a 1.5 litre four cylinder i-VTEC unit which generates a peak power of 118 bhp. The engine is not only powerful but also very efficient. The 1.5 litre i-DTEC engine powers the diesel variant and it generates a peak power of 100 bhp. This is one of the most efficient diesel engines on the market and serves the MPV very well.
