The Honda Mobilio’s launch and its subsequent high success were much anticipated. The Mobilio MPV finally launched in India on 23rd of July this year upon which it tasted instant success. In its first launch month itself, the Mobilio has earned itself the second position in India’s utility vehicle market by managing sales that outshone the monthly sales of that of the Toyota Innova the MPV segment leader and the very popular Maruti Suzuki Ertiga.
The new Honda Cars India managed to get a sales figure of 5,539 units for the Mobilio multi-purpose 7-seater vehicle in the month of August, according to the data collected from SIAM (Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers). The data shows that the Mobilio MPV has already managed to eat into the market shares of the larger MPV Toyota Innova and the slightly smaller Maruti Ertiga. Moreover, it has also been noticed that the launch of the Honda Mobilio has also affected the sales rates of the much popular Ford EcoSport compact SUV, thus the Mobilio is eating into the market share of vehicles out of its specific segment of MPV as well.
Considering the entire utility vehicle market of India, the Ford Ecosport mini SUV maintained its 4th position intact, while the Maruti Ertiga MPV dropped down two spots from its previous 3rd spot to the current 5th spot, and the Toyota Innova got the 3rd spot in the list. As always, the age old Mahindra Bolero still holds its sash in the utility vehicle market and continues to witness strong demand. The homemade SUV, Bolero has a great fan following in the country and is especially popular in the rural and semi-urban Indian vehicle markets, where buyers won’t settle down for anything new but the long time tried and tested Mahindra vehicle.
Thus, the Indian UV buyers have shown great response to the new Honda Mobilio MPV, which is continuing to see great sales. If the Mobilio continues to get such great demands and receive consistent high sales rates, then it will prove to be the top MPV in India by outshining the long time segment ruler Toyota Innova.
While commenting on the success of the new Mobilio MPV and its further market prospects, Honda Cars India’s senior vice-president for marketing & sales, Mr. Jnaneswar Sen said that the company is confident that the new Mobilio will continue to expand the MPV segment in the country. According to Sen, the early data showed that 42 percent of the Honda Mobilio MPV customers were joint family’s holders.
The Honda Mobilio’s primary rival in the market in terms of size is the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. The Ertiga in the first 50 days of its launch back in the year 2012, managed to sell a total 6,802 units. On the other hand, 5,530 units of the Honda Mobilio got sold in the first 39 days of its launch despite a much smaller dealer network of the Japanese car major in India.
