Honda’s Accord has always been in the limelight and has made its way to become the premium car in the segment of luxury sedan when this was launched in India. By the year 2013, this segment of luxury car witnessed decreased sales which Honda was compelled to end the sale of this car in India. Therefore, the 9th Gen Accord which was launched in an international scale in 2013 never experiences any improvement here. Disappointed with this, the company shifted its focus towards the progressively growing segment of small cars with its unmatched products like Amaze, Brio so as to build its stance in the country. Witnessing the growth in demands of these two cars, Honda decided to bring forth a new City and is all geared to introduce its new Jazz to acquire wider share in the market. Having established a position in this segment in India, the company has started focusing on the segment of premium cars wherein the presence is just about establishing and maintaining an image of premium brand.
The launch of new Accord is lined up in the year 2016 in India and is expected that the company will introduce a hybrid model of the care. Katsushi Inoue, recently appointed as the CEO and President of the company in India, confirmed the news about the launch. It is expected that the size of this new-gen car is going to be bit smaller and will be measuring 2775 metres, around 25 mm less than the existing length. Reiterating Honda’s design philosophy of minimal machine and more man, the company has demanded for more space, including headroom and legroom, as compared to its existing model. Accord will be available in 3 engine options in the global markets, an inline 2.4 litre, 4 cylinder engine generating power of 185 PS and peak torque of 245Nm, a V6 engine of 3.5 litre producing peak power of 278 PS and torque of 342 Nm and an inline 4 cylinder engine of 2.0 litre churning out power of 155 PS and peak torque of around 190 Nm.
Either of the engines will definitely improve its fuel efficiency. The exterior as well as interior have been specifically styled not just to enhance its performance and make the car look more stylish but to ensure optimum comfort. It is expected that the car’s interior will comprise premium quality material along with comfortable and new seat. Moreover, the mobility of the car has been considerably enhanced to ensure comfort even while driving on the uneven road.
This new car will be competing with the Camry by Toyota which is already leading the market in the segment of luxury sedan. And, it also going to compete Skoda Superb and Volkswagen Passat which are expected to be launched soon. We are speculating an impressive pricing from the Company for this car to establish a dominant position in this segment.
