The next generation Honda Civic will be the tenth generation of the car. It was spotted without camouflage on Indonesian roads recently. The pictures looked like a part of a photo shoot and not just random spy pictures. From the lack of disguise to the deliberate photographs, it is evident that the launch is around the corner.
The engine variants of the car will include a 1.8 liter i-VTEC petrol unit that is tuned to offer up to 141BHP and 174Nm. There is also a 1.5 liter turbo engine based on the Earth Dreams Technology. It will offer up to 173BHP and 220Nm. The model that was photographed for the commercial shoot had the top trim 1.5 liter Turbo engine.
The car comes with 17 inch alloys with 5 spokes and chrome accents. The Indonesian version of the Civic will get Thai-spec model’s RS body kit. The Thai version includes Remote Start for the engine, electric parking brake system, and a 7-inch touchscreen audio/video infotainment system that is compatible with Apple CarPlay. The car will also feature Honda LaneWatch technology’s blind spot monitoring mechanism.
The tenth generation Civic will offer more choices than ever in terms of exterior design, and engine specifications. The car will come in three body styles, namely, a sedan, a coupe, and the newest in the tribe, a hatchback. The sporty Si and the Civic Type R engine options increase the cumulative number of takers for the new Civic.
Honda confirmed the 1.5 liter top trim engine recently at the New York Motor Show. It was also confirmed that the engine will be working with a 6-speed MT and will be available across all the three body types of the Civic. The CVT automatic version is finally no more the only choice you have for the turbo engine.
The amazing new drive dynamics and smooth yet sturdy chassis of the new generation Civic will make manual transmission feel like cakewalk. The manual gearbox will help the engine perform to its optimum capacity. The CVT was more like a limiting factor that will just get dropped in 2017.
Both, the Si and the Type-R versions of the next-generation Civic lineup will arrive in 2017. The manual transmission is eagerly waited for. So far, the sedan and the hatchback have more enthusiastic potential takers than the coupe version.
The C-segment car will face the Hyundai Elantra Sport 2017 edition as its primary rival. The sales of the Civic has been on a steady downfall for the past few years. At the global level, the European market still has some takers, while in India, the car has become almost obsolete in the market. The 2017 Civic is expected to change the game for the car with its new engine and body type variants.
The 2017 Honda Civic will reach India much later, after the Indonesian market gets the initial release and gives some reviews in return. The Indian market is not that excited about the car and its success can only be determined post-launch.
