As per sources, the all new Honda City’s launch is most imminent in the Indian auto market and to vouch for this fact it has already reached the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) at Pune. Honda Cars India has quite recently announced that the company has plans to launch the next-gen City in the Indian market along with its diesel counterpart but have not yet confirmed any launch dates. However, several sources say that the Japanese car maker is all set to launch the all new City in India on 25th of this month in New Delhi. The Indian launch of the all new City will also be its world premiere.
Though India is a major car market for the Hyundai patent car City, its diesel variant is still not available in the country. In fact, the petrol only car maker Honda Cars India took a long time to introduce its first ever diesel car in India in the form of the star seller Amaze compact sedan. However, after the Amaze’s super success, Honda is keen to launch a slew of new diesel models in India including the next-gen City.
The all new City sedan will be based on the platform of the 2014 Jazz hatchback, and this same platform is also utilized for Honda’s upcoming compact Urban SUV which is gearing up to make its debut at this year’s Tokyo Motor Show that is scheduled to begin on t20th of November.
The all new 2014 Jazz has already launched in Honda’s home market Japan and is currently available for sale only there. However, this global hatch will be introduced in the international car markets in 2014 including that of India. To meet the demands of the already very appreciated 2014 Jazz hatch in the car market of the U.S, which is the largest market for the Jazz, its production is scheduled to begin in March 2014 at the Celaya manufacturing facility in Mexico. As the next-gen City and the latest gen Jazz share a lot of common components, the Celaya as well as the other Jazz manufacturing plants are expected to roll out the all new City when the demand picks up.
Upon its global market launch, the all new Honda City sedan will be locking its horns with several renowned global B-segment cars such as the Hyundai Verna, Nissan Sunny Toyota Vios and Ford Fiesta.
The all new City will be a bigger, better and more aggressive looking car. It is supposed to offer a more premium look and feel both on the outside as well as inside. Given Honda’s luxury status, the new City is expected to be a plush stunner.
The all new City is expected to be powered by Honda’s 1.5 liter EarthDreams diesel mill that powers the Amaze. The engine will be tweaked to offer more power to drive the larger City sedan. Its petrol avatar will feature the ongoing 1.5 liter engine and both the engines will be mated to a 5 speed manual or automatic gearbox.
