Honda Cars India is on a new car launch spree and is all set to launch many new cars in India. In the last year, Honda India is perhaps the only car company that recorded astounding sales growth despite the Indian car market slump. Riding on high success post the launch of Amaze compact sedan, Honda has announced more new launches this year. In fact, 2014 started on a great note for Honda as it launched the all new City on 7th of January. The all new City is already a success, as it has been getting great pre-bookings since in unveiling in November, 2013.
Nevertheless, Honda has plans to launch the all new 2014 Jazz, Mobilio and also a SUV model in India subsequently. Earlier it was known that Honda will be bringing in its latest Vezel SUV in India. However, now it is said that the Vezel will not make it to India and the Brio SUV will come instead.
The Honda Vezel crossover will not come to India as it is meant for the more developed car markets. The Vezel’s pricing may not go down well with the price sensitive Indian market and thus it won’t land up in the country, as Honda is now being very cautious about its products’ pricing in India. While India won’t get the Vezel, Indonesia will have both the Brio SUV and the Vezel crossover selling side by side.
Honda is contemplating to power the Brio SUV with the same engines that do the duty under the Mobilio’s hood, namely a 1.5 liter petrol as well as a 1.5 liter diesel mill. Both the engines along with a 5 speed manual transmission gearbox will be packed in under the hood of the Brio SUV’s petrol and diesel variants.
The Brio SUV is obviously based on the popular Brio’s hatchback’s platform. The Amaze and the Mobilio are also based on the same platform, and all these cars will be manufactured in India. Moreover, all these Brio based cars along with the Brio itself will be manufactured at the company’s Noida plant.
The Japanese car giant will launch the Mobilio MPV towards the middle of this year, while the Brio SUV will be introduced in 2015. As per the reports, the Brio SUV will have the same wheelbase as the Mobilio and also use the larger engine bay. Thus, the upcoming Honda Brio SUV is expected to be spacious and comfortable. This new Honda SUV is likely to be a 5 seater, while it will be an under 4 meter vehicle to avail the tax benefits.
The Brio SUV and the Mobilio will be quite similar in terms of body proportions, as the SUV will borrow quite some cues from the MPV. The interiors and the features of these two vehicles are also likely to be shared.
Honda has not revealed much about the Brio SUV as yet and new details will emerge with time.
