Honda Cars India is getting all geared up for its new car launches in this current financial year. Of course, the Japanese premium car major has been enjoying a gala time in India reveling in the success of the Amaze compact sedan and the new City sedan. While both the sedan models of the company rocked the last fiscal (with the Amaze launched in April 2013, and the new City in January 2014), Honda has different plans for the ongoing 2014-15 fiscal. It is now shifting its focus on the other profitable car segments of India. Honda has plans to launch the Mobilio in the Indian MPV segment, while the all new Jazz will be fighting it out in the premium hatchback segment.
Honda Cars India has now created a new page in its official website listing some details about the Mobilio MPV. The new Mobilio page on the Honda site however only offers some already known details about the vehicle that have been reported several times before.
Moreover, it has been known for quite some time now that the Honda Mobilio is going to be launched soon enough, and the company also says the same about the launch of the MPV and has posted that it will launch in a “few months from now”. This means that the company has not revealed any new details about the new MPV and has not announced its launch dates as yet. Honda India had earlier announced that it will be launching the Mobilio in India in the second quarter of this fiscal, which means the time period between the months of July and September period. According to the reports of some sources, that Mobilio will hit the production in June at Honda’s manufacturing facility in Greater Noida.
Like all the new car models of Honda in India, the Mobilio MPV will also be launched in both its petrol as well as diesel engine options. The Mobilio’s petrol variant is most likely to be powered by a 4-cylinder 1.5-liter i-VTEC engine that is going to be borrowed from the new City sedan. Under the hood of the new City, this engine belts out a max power output of 119 PS and a peak torque of 145 Nm. In the MPV, the power figures might be boosted a bit with tweaks. The engine is expected to be coupled with a 5 speed manual and a CVT transmission gearbox.
On the other hand, the diesel version of the Mobilio will be driven by a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder i-DTEC engine that does it duty for both the diesel versions of the Amaze and the new City. This engine produces 100 PS of power and 200 Nm of torque. This engine is mated to a 5 speed manual and a 6 speed manual gearboxes on the Amaze and the City respectively.
Post its market launch, the Honda Mobilio will lock its horns with the very popular Maruti Ertiga and is expected to continue Honda’s success.
