The Indian arm of the esteemed South Korean automobile firm Hyundai India has expanded its association with Industrial Training Institute that comes under the Skill India Program. The company has strengthened its agreement with 25 Industrial Training Institutes ( ITIs). The vision behind expanding agreement with ITI is to reduce skill deficit that exists in shop floors of the Indian automobile industry.
It is Hyundai’s expertise in the skill development area that has enabled it to strengthen its association with ITI. The company has introduced a successful pilot program in five locations in the year 2012, and after successful completion of this program the company has extended its association with 25 it is. The firm has been successful in implementing skilled training programs, evident from the fact that 95% of trained graduates under the Hyundai Skill Development program conducted in the year 2012 to 2015 were given employment in 2015 in Hyundai dealerships.
The Hyundai Skill Development Program is a two-year training program conducted in 25 ITI all over India. It comprises of a well-structured program with 27 chapters conducted for 96 hours and there are practical On Job Training workshops as well that takes place for four days and this is held at the Hyundai dealerships enabling students to gain vast experience and emerge into a highly successful and experienced H Step 1 Certified Technician.
The goal behind the introduction of Hyundai Skill Development Program is to elevate the lack of employment capability at the technical level in dealerships. The senior Vice-President of the Marketing and Sales department of Hyundai Motor India, Rakesh Srivastava commented on the Hyundai Skill Development Program and said, ‘’Hyundai is a key component facilitating progress of Indian employment pool and it is also a responsible unit. The goal behind our association with ITI is to reduce lack of employment talent in the shop floor segment of the Indian automobile industry and achieve worldwide competitiveness. Through the formation of association with ITI we are confident that there will be a reduction in talent gap between the main automobile component unit and skilled employment in shop floor.’’
It is an interesting initiative of Hyundai to introduce the Skill Development Program with the aim to reach out to 25 ITI. The aim here is to improve skilled employment in showrooms, and it is the need of the hour. Employees in showrooms need to be well-versed with the technical and marketing details of vehicles, and also about the transportation process from main automobile unit to showrooms. For efficient sale of vehicles to happen there has to be a strong understanding between employees in the main production section and showrooms.
It is a lengthy process to buy a vehicle from showroom, customers have to be aware of different variants, price, and waiting period and also service stations to service their vehicles. The technicians in showrooms have to be familiar with all these aspects of the vehicles. There is a deficit in skilled manpower in showrooms, and Hyundai has indeed developed an excellent initiative of reducing this shortfall through the introduction of Hyundai Skill Development Program with 25 ITI.
