Honda cars India reported had just reported days back that its Greater Noida manufacturing facility is having production constraints, as it is overloaded with the demands of the new City and now with the heavy demands of the newly launched Mobilio. The company also revealed that this production constraint led to no production of the Brio hatchback in July.
Now, the Japanese car maker has informed the media that the production of the new Honda City which was being manufactured at the Greater Noida plant will be shifted to the company’s new second plant in Tapukara, Rajasthan. The company says that this process of production location shifting will take about a month’s time during which, the production of the City will remain halted. Thus, expect the new City deliveries to get delayed a bit while the car might even attach a waiting period. Moreover, there might be a temporary drop in the monthly sales figures for Honda Cars India.
The new Honda Mobilio was launched on 23rd of July, upo which it received phenomenal response in India. The Mobilio being a new car will also have high sales momentum and has all the probabilities of being a long term success in the Indian car market. Thus, Honda Cars India wants to continue the production of the Mobilio at its primary car plant Greater Noida, while the new City’s production will start at the company’s new Tapukara car plant in the first week of the next month. However, the shift of the new City’s production to the Tapukara plant does not mean that the new City is any less important for Honda India. In fact the new City sedan is one of the most important cars for Honda India, not only because the car is a major volume drawer but also because the new City is the new leader of the Indian C-segment.
While speaking on this development, the company’s Senior Vice President of Marketing & Sales Mr. Jnaneswar Sen said that the production shift of the new City to the Tapukara plant will also ensure the better availability as well as timely deliveries of the new Honda City and also the timely deliveries of the newly launched Mobilio MPV. He also added by saying that the company is overwhelmed with the response it received both for the City and the Mobilio, and it is thus necessary to maximize the production at both the car factories to serve the customer better.
The Honda City which was launched in January this year has already sold over 53,000 units, while the Mobilio received outstanding bookings of more than 10,000 within just seven days of its market launch.
The production shift for the City will also take considerable load off Honda’s Noida plant and allow it to start back the production of the popular Brio hatchback. On the other hand, the Tapukara plant will be producing more cars from September, as till now it has been only producing the Amaze.
