Honda launches Vezel compact SUV at Tokyo Motor Show

The much speculated Honda Urban SUV concept’s production model has finally been unveiled at the ongoing 2013 Tokyo Motor Show. Honda is going to call this compact SUV as ‘Vezel’ once its production version hits the global car market. This compact SUV from the house of Honda has been much talked about and now Honda has ended all the speculations regarding it by officially unveiling the model and announcing its specifications to the world, utilizing the platform of the Tokyo auto show.

Honda has revealed that the company is going to use the newly developed 1.5 liter VTEC direct injection petrol motor as well as a hybrid powertrain under the hood of the brand new Vezel SUV. Honda also said that a dual clutch automatic transmission option will also be on offer on the new Honda Vezel.

Apart from the information on the mechanical specifications of the Vezel, Honda also announced the new compact SUV’s market launch dates at the Tokyo Motor Show. The Honda Vezel will be hit the Japanese car market for sale on 20^th of December, 2013.

The Honda Vezel compact SUV is a global car and is developed based on the all new Jazz hatchback’s platform. The Honda Vezel is also scheduled to be introduced to the Indian car market and is expected to launch sometime in 2015. However, Honda is yet to make the official announcement on the Vezel’s launch confirmation in Indian.

For the Japanese car market, there is yet no information about a diesel option of the Honda Vezel. However, if Honda launches the compact SUV model in the Indian car market, then the company will definitely provide a diesel variant. Honda does not even have to consider a different diesel engine for the Vezel in India, as the Amaze compact sedan’s 1.5 litre i-DTEC turbo diesel mill will be perfect choice.

The 1.5 litre i-DTEC turbo is the same diesel engine that will be responsible for powering 3 new Honda cars in the Indian car market including the 2014 City sedan, 2014 Jazz hatchback and the Mobilio MPV.

Coming back to the brand new Vezel, the compact SUV looks every bit of a stunner and an absolute contemporary urban SUV. The SUV model has a smooth and sleek overall design matching the good looks of the new age vehicles.

Being a SUV, the Vezel boasts of great interior space and comfortable ride. It is bestowed with Honda’s patent premium interiors and space enhancing features such as the centrally located fuel tank and the much acclaimed magic seats. More details of the Vezel compact SUV will be available soon.

The Honda Vezel will be a new contender in the compact SUV segment in the global auto market. The new SUVs potential rivals come in the likes of the Nissan Juke, Ford EcoSport and Renault Duster. In India, the Honda Vezel will be pitched against the Duster, EcoSport and Nissan Terrano, but in terms of pricing, it could be closer to Terrano.
