There are many Multi-Purpose Vehicles (MPVs) available to purchase in the Indian car market. And this variety of cars will keep on rising as time will pass by. Some of them will perish while the other will flourish in the domestic market. Honda recently launched the new Honda Mobilio, which is not a true MPV, and the company is expecting it to perform well. There is a MPV from Honda which is being sold in the international market for around two decades now. In the past, we agree that our market was not given the kind of importance which it is being received now. And so, Honda would launch this MPV, called as the Honda Odyssey, in India.
The Honda Odyssey currently is in its fifth generation. It was first launched in 1995 and since then, just like any other car, it has evolved exceptionally. The current generation of the Honda Odyssey flaunts its new design philosophy. Remember the Maruti Suzuki Van? As far as I remember it was the first car which I saw a pair of sliding doors. Similarly, the Honda Odyssey is blessed with such sliding doors. The difference is that the Odyssey is so huge that it can accommodate an entire Van in it! The space inside the cabin is extreme and you’d never have to complain about it. The seven seater MPV is not only spacious but luxurious as well. It will cocoon its passengers in a cloud of comfort and harmony.
The Honda Odyssey looks dashing. The front is massive with its large bumper and grille which the engineers at Honda somehow managed to combine together. The horizontal chrome lines of the grille passes beautifully to the bumper and enhances the sheer presence of the MPV. The headlights are flawless and so is the side profile. The rear end of the Odyssey is enormous and it would scare off the small cars on our roads. The tail lights are wide and broad and when lit them could provide enough light to light up the passage to your home.
This massive MPV gets its energy from a 2.4 litre i-VTEC petrol engine which has been newly developed by the Japanese in their secret facility. There is another engine as an option, a 3.5 litre V6 which produces a max power output of 248 bhp. It would be more than enough to pull the entire Odyssey along with its passengers. Even then there would be still enough power left to let you have fun.
The launch of Honda Odyssey in India had been a hot topic last year. We were expecting Honda to launch the Odyssey in India by the end of 2014 but it seems that is not going to happen. Perhaps, we would have to wait a bit longer to get our hands on this enormous MPV. We cannot comment about the price bracket which Honda would put on the Odyssey when it would be launched but we expect it to be around Rs 20-30 lakhs. Honda Odyssey would be a good competitor for the other MPVs and it could be a hit in India.
