Honda Cars India is all braced up to commence the production of two of its upcoming launches, namely the Mobilio MPV and the all new Jazz hatchback. According to reports, the Mobilio will hit the production in June 2014 at Honda’s Greater Noida manufacturing facility.
The reports say that Honda will start with the production of around 45,000 Mobilio units per year. The much anticipated Mobilio multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) is expected to launch in India in the third quarter of this year, and it will be the first new Honda car in this financial year 2014-15. The Mobilio has already launched in the international car markets. Like all new Honda cars, the Mobilio will also be available in both petrol and diesel avatars. The petrol model is likely to be powered by the new City’s 1.5 liter petrol mill that delivers a max power output of 119 PS and 145 Nm of peak torque. On the other hand, the diesel model of the Mobilio will be powered by the very same 1.5 liter i-DTEC motor that churns out 100 PS of power and 200 Nm of peak torque.
An official from Honda Cars India revealed that the transmission options for the Mobilio will remain same as the other Honda cars in this country. This means that the petrol engine will be mated to the transmission gearbox options of a manual and an automatic gearbox, while the diesel mill will be coupled with only a manual transmission gearbox. Honda might be endowing either a 5 speed manual or 6 speed manual gearbox on the Mobilio diesel.
After the Mobilio Honda will launch the all new Jazz, which will be the second new Honda offering for this fiscal. According to the reports, the Jazz will hit the production at Honda’s new car plant in Tapukara, Rajasthan just a month after the Mobilio. Honda is planning to keep the initial production volume for the Jazz at around 20,000 units annually.
The all new Jazz will also be offered with both the engine options of petrol as well as diesel. The Jazz premium hatchback will re-immerge in the Indian car market in its all new avatar after it has been discontinued owing to low market performance. The lack of a diesel engine and steep pricing had marked the end of the very capable and quality Jazz’s previous model in India. However, this time around, Honda is expected to have everything right. With a bigger, more stylish model and a diesel counterpart, the new Jazz is expected to be a great success. Moreover, Honda has got its price strategy corrected and all its new cars are launching with competitive pricing. The same it expected with Jazz ensuring its success.
Surprisingly, the report that the new Honda Jazz will hit production in July is conflicting with Honda’s announcement, which said that the Jazz will not land up in the calendar year of 2014 and will launch sometime early 2015.
