With petrol prices soaring high in India, we are looking for more diesel cars. Up until now, we didn’t have a choice of diesel engine from the premium car brand Honda, looks like Honda is going to rise with launching its first diesel engine car in India which will be based on its earlier model of Honda Brio. Confirmed from the press conference held in Japan in late September, recently that is, Honda Motor global CEO that is Mr. Takanobu talked about his plans for various regions all around the world which included the plans of launching a diesel sedan for the Indian Market. Way to go for Honda Motors, they are launching a car at the correct timing in the Indian economy.
Much like Maruti Swift Dzire, Skoda Rapid and Verito Compact Sedans, not to forget the Tata Indigo CS sedan version of their B segment cars, Honda is stepping up with a sedan version of its hatchback Brio. The expected size of the car is about sub-4m length. The size of the car will be in competition with these cars in the market and the diesel engine is expected to deliver competitive fuel efficiency.
Keeping the Indian market in mind, Honda will be pricing this Brio based diesel engine sedan below 10-lakh, keeping competition in mind with cars like Tata Indigo CS, Maruti Swift Dzire, Skoda Rapid, Verito Compact etc.
Expected to arrive in April 2013, Honda Brio Diesel Sedan is likely to be carrying a 1.5L or 1.6 L diesel capacity engine with power and torque at the range of what Brio, Jazz and other variants have to offer. They may be similar to the Honda Civic Diesel engine variant used in Europe. The car is anyway going to be promising considering the fact that diesel cars are more in demand these days.
The transmission of this sedan is likely to be manual as their usual models in India, though there is going to be an automatic transmission in the Brio Model launched soon in India but the hopes of this diesel sedan with an automatic transmission is less. The engine should be based on the i-DTec technology that Honda has to offer. It will have the regular four cylinder engine. What we expect out of such engine could be the maximum torque of about 220 Nm, or presumably the range of 150-220 Nm.
The good thing about this sedan would be the service because Honda is planning to have the diesel engines manufactured locally in India. They may assemble the engine too but we are hoping for an abundant availability and good service, after all, its Honda. Localisation means the sedan could be more economical on the pockets of us Indians. A fact much looked up on.
Hoping the sales will go up by the launch of this much awaited diesel car by Honda, here is wishing good luck to Honda on launching its first diesel engine car in India.
